(Baonghean.vn) - The CEO of DTEK - Ukraine's largest energy company - believes that Ukraine's failure in the energy war with Russia cannot be ruled out.

According to Ria Novosti, DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko said in an interview with the Financial Times on March 3 that Ukraine is starting to lose the energy war with Russia, due to lack of support from the US.

“Ukraine could lose the energy war with Russia if it does not receive help from the United States soon,” said Maxim Timchenko.

At the same time, according to the DTEK director, failure may come soon because everything that Western partners promised to Ukraine is not being delivered. “There is a feeling that we are increasingly unprotected, which significantly reduces our confidence,” said Mr. Timchenko.

In the winter of 2023, DTEK spent about $120 million repairing and rebuilding its energy infrastructure. This winter, Russia has been less focused on these goals, so the costs have dropped. DTEK is looking to expand its operations, especially in the green energy sector.

DTEK can overcome the logistical and risk issues of building a wind farm during wartime, but the difficulty lies in financing, said CEO Maxim Timchenko. “The only major limitation is access to capital,” he said.

The Russian military began attacking critical infrastructure in Ukraine following the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge on October 10, 2022, as well as other terrorist attacks that Moscow is behind, supported by Kiev. The attacks are being carried out against energy facilities, defense industry, military command and communications across Ukraine.
