Ria Novosti news agency reported that in an interview with Newsmax, when asked if he planned to completely cut off funding to Ukraine if re-elected, Donald Trump said that compared to the amount of money the US spends on Ukraine, Europe is spending a very small amount.

"All of Europe combined should pay the same amount of money as the United States has spent in Ukraine. Europe spends about $100 billion less in Ukraine than the United States. This is not fair to the United States, to the American taxpayers," said Mr. Donald Trump.

Donald Trump, a candidate for the 2024 US presidential election, has said that if he is re-elected, he could convene a NATO summit in June 2025 to discuss the future of the alliance.

Speaking to supporters in South Carolina on February 14, Donald Trump revealed that while he was in office, a leader of an unnamed "big country" that is a member of NATO asked him whether the US would provide protection for the alliance in case of a Russian attack. In response to this question, Trump said he would not do this because NATO member countries do not allocate enough common defense budgets.

Mr Trump, who is widely seen as the Republican candidate to challenge Mr Biden in the November 2024 election, has adjusted his stance on Ukraine. While he once suggested he would use US aid as leverage to force Kiev to reach a peace deal with Moscow, he has since called on European members of NATO to step up their contributions.

Mr. Trump further argued that any future aid to Ukraine should be considered a loan rather than a “gift”./.
