Man lost 800 million after being tricked into installing fake software
A man in Gia Lam (Hanoi) was recently scammed out of 800 million VND by installing fake Public Service software. Realizing he had been scammed, Mr. D. reported it to the police.
On the afternoon of March 16, Hanoi Police said that the Cyber Security Department is verifying and clarifying the report of Mr. D. (in Gia Lam district) about being scammed out of more than 800 million VND.

Before that, Mr. D. received a call from a phone number claiming to be a police officer of Long Bien district to help with the processing of citizen identification cards with a system error, asking him to come to the ward to fix it. Because Mr. D. was busy and lived far away, he made an appointment to come the next day.
At this time, the subject informed that because the file needed to be completed urgently, he was asked to download the software from the link provided by the subject to support remote processing.
Because the software interface is similar to the interface of online public services, Mr. D. completely trusted and performed the operations. After that, his bank account was used by the subject to transfer money. He was robbed of more than 800 million VND.
From the above incident, Hanoi City Police advise people to be vigilant against strange calls and messages, especially those related to authorities. Do not work, do not provide personal information and do not follow requests via phone. At the same time, contact the authorities and competent authorities to verify the caller.
People need to be wary of requests to install software, absolutely do not click on links received via text messages, and do not install applications of unknown origin.
In addition, people should not save banking service security information on their phones, regularly update criminal methods and tricks on mass media and propagate prevention to relatives and people around.
