Many 10th and 11th grade students are wondering whether they can take the 2024 aptitude test to test their abilities or save the results for admission next year.

In the admissions consulting program organized by the Ministry of Education and Training in coordination with VTV2, answering some concerns about the competency assessment exam, Ms. Pham Thi Bich - Deputy Director of the Center for Testing and Training Quality Assessment, Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that this exam is organized for students who have graduated from high school or candidates who are eligible to take the high school graduation exam in 2024 according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

“Thus, students from grade 11 and below are not eligible to take this exam,” said Ms. Bich.

At Hanoi National University, the exam regulations state that the candidates are students in grade 12 of high school or equivalent; those who have graduated from high school (or equivalent or higher) within 3 years of the exam year. Other cases wishing to take the exam should contact the exam council for consideration and decision.

Although not prohibited, Hanoi National University also recommends that 10th and 11th graders should not rush to register for the exam right away, because at this time students have not completed the 12th grade program, so it is difficult to achieve good results. This can also affect the students' psychology in the following exams.

To achieve high results in the competency assessment exam, the representative of Ho Chi Minh City National University said that the exam is quite long, so candidates need to cultivate necessary skills such as the ability to read documents, the ability to synthesize information, synthesize data, analyze data, etc. Along with having test-taking techniques and reasonable time allocation, candidates will certainly achieve high results.

Candidates who fail the 2024 graduation exam will take a separate exam or a separate test?

In the program, Mr. Huynh Van Chuong - Director of the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training said that this is the last year students will take the exam according to the 2006 general education program. This year, the Ministry of Education and Training will not change the format or structure of the exam, so candidates can rest assured to review.

For those who failed the graduation exam from 2024 onwards, Mr. Chuong said that they do not need to worry because “they will take the exam for the program they study” to ensure the rights of all students. This content will be included in the circular promulgating the regulations for high school graduation exams from 2025.

However, there are currently no statistics on the number of candidates, so it is not possible to calculate the scale to decide whether to organize a separate exam or a joint exam in one session.

"But no matter what, the exam questions will be different, but the exam scores between the old and new programs will be considered the same," said Mr. Chuong.

He also noted that high school students who are preparing to graduate this year will register for the exam online through the Ministry of Education and Training’s system. For independent candidates, they will go to the exam center to receive instructions and register directly.

Should students participate in multiple university admission methods?

Answering this question, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Anh - Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology said that most schools have different admission methods, candidates should take advantage of the opportunity to register for early admission using the methods they feel confident with.

“For example, the school considers admission based on the results of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam. If students take the exam and do not have enough points to be admitted to their registered wishes, this will not affect admission by other methods. Therefore, students should take advantage of these methods to increase their chances of being admitted to the school,” said Dr. Quoc Anh.

MSc. Pham Doan Nguyen - Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance also said that all admission methods are independent, therefore, candidates can choose many methods to increase their chances of admission.

Meanwhile, Director of the Department of Quality Management Huynh Van Chuong said that although there are many admission methods today, students should not "race" to follow the methods.

“The high school graduation exam is carefully prepared by the Ministry of Education and Training, aiming to assess capacity, especially in application and high-level application questions. Most schools in the medical sector are currently still loyal to using the results from this exam.

From 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training will continue in that direction to help learners reduce pressure, reduce the number of exams but still get into the best wishes, suitable for their personal development orientation," said Mr. Chuong.
