Coach Hoang Anh Tuan replaces Mr. Troussier to lead U23 Vietnam to attend the U23 Asian Cup Finals

After coach Troussier terminated his contract with VFF, the head coach positions of the U23 team and the Vietnam National Team were left vacant.

To prepare for the U23 Asian Cup taking place in Qatar next April, the Vietnam Football Federation appointed coach Hoang Anh Tuan to lead the U23 Vietnam team, replacing coach Philippe Troussier.

Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan signed a contract with VFF to be in charge of selecting and training the national youth teams from 2022 to present. After that, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan led the Vietnam U20 team to qualify and attend the 2023 AFC U20 Championship finals in Uzbekistan in May 2023.

Most recently, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan led the U23 Vietnam team to win the U23 Southeast Asian Championship for the second time, when they defeated U23 Indonesia in the final match in August 2023 in Thailand.

Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan is also known as the coach who made history in Vietnamese football, when he led the Vietnam U19 team to enter the top 4 at the 2016 U19 Asian Cup, thereby becoming, together with Japan, Korea and Saudi Arabia, the 4 excellent representatives of Asia to win tickets to the final round of the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup.

At the 2024 AFC U23 Championship taking place in Qatar from April 15 to May 3, the Vietnam U23 team is in Group D with Uzbekistan U23, Kuwait U23 and Malaysia U23. According to the schedule, the Vietnam U23 team will play its opening match against Kuwait U23 on April 17. In the next two matches, the Vietnam U23 team will meet Malaysia U23 on April 20 and Uzbekistan U23 on April 23.

According to the plan, the Vietnam U23 team will focus on training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center from April 5, 2024. On April 8, the team will leave for Qatar to train and compete in a match with the Jordan U23 team on April 10, thereby completing the final preparation step before officially entering the U23 continental arena.

Before working with the youth teams of Vietnamese football, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan used to lead domestic football clubs including Khanh Hoa and Hai Phong, he helped these teams have a very annoying playing style and have remarkable achievements in the top group of V-League.

Previously, to prepare for the 2024 AFC U23 Championship Finals, the Vietnam U23 team was given the opportunity by the VFF to gather and train in parallel with the National Team during FIFA Days from 2023 to present. Most recently, during the FIFA Days in March 2024, the Vietnam U23 team trained in Tajikistan and played two friendly matches with the Tajikistan U23 team, with a 1-0 win in the first leg and a 0-0 draw in the second leg./.
