One of the important solutions promoted in recent times is the spirit of "self-reflection and self-correction" so that each cadre and Party member is strong, contributing to building a strong Party.
Positive impacts of "self-reflection and self-correction"
Hung Son commune is a locality with a fairly comprehensive movement in Anh Son district. The commune's Party Committee has been rated as having excellently completed its tasks for many years, including five consecutive years (2019-2023) as an outstanding exemplary unit.
This mountainous commune has undergone a remarkable transformation, replacing corn with sugarcane in the floodplains; and replacing cassava with tea, covering barren hillsides with over 600 hectares of tea plantations. This has been coupled with efforts to encourage residents to improve their neglected gardens, build model gardens for the new rural development program, and create economic value from fruit trees such as oranges, pomelos, and tangerines, combined with livestock farming and vegetable cultivation. The average income of residents has improved, from 31 million VND in 2015 to over 56 million VND per person in 2023.
Hung Son commune has completed the task of building an advanced new rural area and is continuing to set the goal of building a model new rural area, associated with creating conditions for the development of ecotourism, community tourism, and agricultural experience tourism.
For that development to occur, the Party committee and government in Hung Son commune truly have prestige among the people. The people trust the policies and plans set forth by the Party committee and government, and therefore agree to implement them.
To gain that trust, Comrade Vo Van Hien - Secretary of the Party Committee of the commune - shared: The most important key is to maintain the "quality" of a cadre. Through studying Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style, each cadre and Party member, especially key cadres in the commune, has clearly understood: As "workers who receive salaries," we must truly care for the people and the commune, acting with "selflessness and impartiality."
Therefore, before implementing any policy, thorough scientific and practical research is conducted to ensure it truly benefits the people and to determine the appropriate leadership methods. The leadership process emphasizes the pioneering and exemplary role of cadres and Party members, who lead by example to gain the people's trust, and then speak to gain their understanding and follow suit, especially the responsibility of Party members assigned to oversee households within their residential areas.
In particular, in Hung Son commune, the Party committee focuses on the evaluation and review process in the spirit of serious "self-reflection and self-correction." According to the Secretary of the Hung Son Commune Party Committee, "self-reflection and self-correction" is carried out in the spirit of self-adjustment and correction of limitations and shortcomings. This enhances the role, pioneering spirit, and exemplary conduct of cadres and Party members. Neglecting this process would be tantamount to weak, indecisive leadership, like "beating around the bush."
In Nghia My commune (Thai Hoa town), in mid-2022, a thematic conference on "Self-reflection and self-correction" was held within the commune's Party Committee and down to the branch level. The shortcomings and deficiencies of the Party organization and individual cadres and Party members identified at the conference were further reviewed at the end-of-year, quarterly, and monthly review meetings of the Standing Committee, the Executive Committee of the commune's Party Committee, and the branch committees. Deputy Secretary of the Nghia My commune Party Committee, Chu Thi Duc, stated: "This is done to ensure that the shortcomings and deficiencies are fully and effectively addressed."
According to the Standing Deputy Secretary of Nghia My commune: Through regular self-reflection and self-correction, the leadership and guidance of the commune Party committee and its branches have become more decisive, thorough, and clear; cadres and Party members are the "core," and actions match words to spread among the people, based on assigning tasks to each cadre and Party member, coupled with serious inspection and review in the spirit of "self-reflection and self-correction."
Most notably in the construction of advanced new rural areas, the commune and village Party committees have focused on directing efforts to awaken a sense of responsibility and self-reliance among cadres, Party members, and the people to upgrade transportation routes, clear traffic corridors, and beautify the appearance of new rural areas; and to upgrade and renovate village cultural houses. Several new economic models have been introduced to the locality, such as black snail farming, Quy duck farming, and currently, a model for raising deer for antlers is being developed.
State management has brought about real changes in several areas, such as environmental protection, security and order, especially land management, contributing to a reduction in complaints related to land encroachment and disputes in the area…

Based on the implementation of the Party's resolutions on Party building and rectification and the political system; resolutely preventing, repelling, and strictly handling cadres and Party members who have degenerated in political ideology, morality, and lifestyle, and exhibiting "self-evolution" and "self-transformation"; and in conjunction with studying and following Ho Chi Minh's thought, morality, and style, in recent times, Party committees at all levels in the province have paid attention to the work of "self-reflection and self-correction" within organizations and among cadres and Party members.
Many units such as Quynh Luu, Thai Hoa town, Quy Hop, Nghia Dan, Hoang Mai town… have organized extensive political activities within Party organizations at all levels and among cadres and Party members on "self-reflection and self-correction"; linked with specific solutions to overcome the shortcomings, limitations, and weaknesses identified through these activities.
According to Comrade Tran Khanh Son - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Thai Hoa Town Party Committee: After two years of organizing thematic activities on "Self-reflection and self-correction," the "self-reflection and self-correction" of Party organizations and Party members has become more substantive with specific methods and approaches; clearly demonstrating the responsibility of cadres and Party members, especially the role and responsibility of the leaders, linked to the results of the political tasks of the agency or unit.
To transform Thai Hoa town into a "Driving urban center and regional hub of Northwest Nghe An" in accordance with Resolution No. 39 of the Politburo, the Thai Hoa Town Party Committee continues to promote solutions for building and rectifying the Party and the political system, focusing on effectively implementing "self-reflection and self-correction" within the political system, among cadres, Party members, and all strata of the people, in order to leverage strengths, overcome limitations, and unleash endogenous resources for development.
Based on studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style, and the requirements set forth by the Party, along with practical experience, "self-reflection and self-correction" is a necessary and ongoing process.
However, currently, some grassroots Party organizations, agencies, units, and cadres and Party members have not fully identified limitations and shortcomings in the implementation of political tasks, pressing and prominent issues, or areas requiring breakthroughs in order to propose solutions for improvement. Alternatively, some Party organizations, cadres, and Party members, despite having their shortcomings and limitations clearly identified, have not been truly decisive in effectively correcting and overcoming them.
It is suggested that Party committees at all levels should study and plan a widespread political campaign throughout the province on "self-reflection and self-correction," linked with inspection, evaluation, preliminary review, and final review, similar to the comprehensive review campaign in accordance with the spirit of Central Resolution 4 (11th Party Congress); so that "self-reflection and self-correction" truly becomes the "key" to consolidating the strength of unity within the Party.
