(Baonghean.vn) - In recent years, propaganda work on preventing drowning accidents for students has been proactively and jointly implemented by border posts on the two border lines of Nghe An province...

Proactive prevention and avoidance

Accordingly, the Border Guard stations have organized many extracurricular classes, equipping students in the area with necessary skills in preventing and combating drowning accidents. Along with theoretical training, practical activities have also been deployed by the stations to help students grasp basic skills in preventing and combating drowning accidents. Typical units include Tam Hop Border Guard Station, Cua Lo - Ben Thuy Port Border Guard Station, etc.

Proactively helping and supporting 115 students at Tam Hop Primary School, Tam Hop Commune, Tuong Duong District, Tam Hop Border Guard Station coordinated with the school to organize propaganda on drowning prevention for students. Students at the school were equipped with theory and practice of basic skills to prevent drowning accidents.

Captain Nguyen Kim Trong - Head of the Tam Hop Border Guard Station's Mass Mobilization Team, who directly equipped the students with knowledge, said: "To help students understand and absorb easily, we have compiled documents in the form of PowerPoint presentations, both theoretical and with visual images to specifically guide each movement for the students. In addition to providing theory such as how to prevent, handle emergency drowning and first aid for drowning victims, the unit also organizes for students to practice basic movements in preventing and combating drowning accidents."

My house is 5km from school. Normally, after school, I often go to the stream to play. Recently, my friends and I were taught by soldiers and teachers how to prevent drowning, so we found it very useful. We will remind each other to be safe, not to bathe in rivers or streams alone, and not to go to deep, dangerous places.

Along with Tam Hop Border Guard Station, in recent times, Cua Lo - Ben Thuy Port Border Guard Station has also proactively deployed activities to prevent drowning accidents for students. Recently, Border Guard Station officers have disseminated drowning prevention skills to 400 students of Nghi Quang Commune Secondary School, Nghi Loc District.

The station's area includes 14 wards and communes in Nghi Loc district and Cua Lo town. There are many rivers, streams and especially the famous Cua Lo tourist beach. Every year, to proactively prevent drowning accidents for students in the area, the station has proactively coordinated with schools to organize extracurricular propaganda activities on drowning prevention for students.

In the early days of April 2024, the Border Guard Station of Cua Lo - Ben Thuy Port has carried out propaganda activities at 2 schools in the area, with the participation of about 1,000 students and teachers. From now until the end of the 2023-2024 school year, the Border Guard Station of Cua Lo - Ben Thuy Port will continue to carry out propaganda activities on drowning prevention for students at 10 secondary schools in the area where the unit is stationed.

Contribute to raising awareness

The provision of knowledge on drowning prevention for students in the area is being promoted by Border Guard stations on the two border lines of Nghe An province. According to Major Ha Huy Thien - Deputy Political Commissar of Tam Hop Border Guard Station: To ensure proper technical propaganda, the unit has sent experienced military medical officers to propagate and instruct students on drowning prevention skills, first aid for victims and guide specific practical movements for students to easily perform.

It is known that in addition to propaganda work at schools, Border Guard units have also coordinated with localities and organizations to organize propaganda, warnings, and put up warning signs in ponds, lakes, rivers, and streams to prevent drowning accidents.

Teacher Nguyen Dinh Man - Principal of Tam Hop Primary School said: In the mountainous areas, the students are all children of ethnic minorities. Their parents go to the fields during the day and only return at night, so there is a lack of closeness and supervision of their children. During the hot season, the children often go to school through streams. Besides, with their active nature, they often bathe in streams without adults accompanying them...

It is necessary for schools to coordinate with border guards to proactively equip students with knowledge on drowning prevention, so that they have the skills and grasp the basic knowledge when faced with situations. In addition, teachers also regularly propagate and remind students not to play near streams, ponds, lakes, etc. When bathing or swimming, they must be accompanied by an adult.

In addition to the activities of disseminating the law to the local people, every year, the units have proactively coordinated with local schools to organize propaganda on drowning prevention for students, in order to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills so that they are not surprised when situations arise.

Depending on the characteristics of the ethnic groups and each specific area, the Border Guard officers have proactively researched and compiled concise, easy-to-understand documents, focusing on practice to convey to the children. Depending on each geographical location, propaganda can be concentrated or per class to ensure that children grasp the basic knowledge in the room, avoiding drowning accidents...
