According to RT on April 14, in a program on TVL (France), former Director of the French General Directorate for External Security Alain Jouillet assessed that the situation on the Ukrainian front is currently not progressing. Both sides in the conflict realize that "neither side can win".

"Let's negotiate and find a solution. For example, in the scenario of the Korean War, in which the border would run almost along the front line. This option is not new, it has been implemented by South Korea and North Korea and is valid to this day. Peace between North and South Korea has been going on since 1953, this is no joke. So this option is possible for Russia and Ukraine," said Alain Jouillet, former Director of the French General Directorate for External Security.

According to Mr. Jouillet, in the context of pressure from external forces, both Russia and Ukraine do not want peace, it will depend on the political developments happening in the US.

"We can say that Donald Trump will almost certainly win, because his actual approval rating is greater than the margin of error in the polls. So basically, Trump should win. And Trump himself has clearly stated on American television channels: 'If I win, I will call Mr. Putin.' And we will immediately see peace," said Alain Jouillet.

According to Mr. Jouillete, Russian President Putin is not "too fond of Mr. Trump" because "he is difficult to control" - as the Russian leader once said. However, Mr. Jouillete believes that President Putin will respect Mr. Trump.

Therefore, the former Director of the French General Directorate for External Security believes that Russia and Ukraine will reach an agreement in the coming months, or more likely, they will reach an agreement when Mr. Trump takes office.

At the same time, Mr. Jouillete said that President Putin is trying to consolidate his military advantage in some densely populated areas to gain a favorable position for negotiations./.
