(Baonghean.vn) - According to calculations based on current weather forecasts and water resources, in the summer-autumn crop - season 2024, Nghe An has over 4,200 hectares of rice at risk of drought and lack of irrigation water. Proactive solutions to combat drought are the content that the agricultural sector and localities need to focus on implementing right from the beginning of the production season.
On the morning of April 15, the Provincial People's Committee held a conference to deploy the summer-autumn crop production project in 2024.
The conference was held under the chairmanship of comrades: Nguyen Van De - Member of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Phung Thanh Vinh - Member of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Over 4,200/79,500 hectares of rice are at risk of drought and lack of irrigation water.
According to forecasts, this year's summer-autumn crop production takes place in conditions of early and severe hot weather, with lower rainfall than the same period in 2023. There is a high risk of heat and drought from the beginning of the crop, and by the end of the crop, there is a high risk of flooding and waterlogging. According to calculations, there will be over 4,200/total 79,500 hectares of rice at risk of water shortage and drought. Along with that, there is a potential risk that some pests may arise and cause serious damage.
In order to achieve the target of nearly 413,000 tons of food in the summer-autumn crop - 2024, the agricultural sector has developed a production plan, arranged a reasonable structure of varieties, crops, and seasons, suitable to the actual conditions, specifically in each production area. Along with that, expand the area of safe crops to increase the value of agricultural products; at the same time, promote land accumulation and concentration; link farmers with cooperatives and enterprises, associated with product consumption to increase value and stabilize production. Promote the implementation and expand the application of technical advances and advanced processes in production such as: IPM, SRI, ICM ...
In particular, focus on converting crop and season structures in areas without water throughout the season, with unsafe and ineffective production to ensure safe production and increase income value.
Mobilizing the entire political system to direct production
In his concluding remarks at the conference, Comrade Phung Thanh Vinh - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development stated: With the forecast of drought at the beginning of the season, the risk of rain, storms and thunderstorms at the end of the season, it is necessary to organize the planting of summer-autumn rice - winter-spring rice with the motto "the sooner the better", putting safety and efficiency first; must consider the time of spring rice harvest, water distribution capacity to choose the time of seedling emergence, direct sowing and seed structure to close the area and avoid rain, floods, storms, and tropical depressions at the end of the season. Carry out well the work of investigation, detection, estimation and forecasting of pests right from the early stages of emergence to direct timely prevention and control.
“The irrigation sector and localities should develop plans to combat drought and appropriate irrigation plans to ensure proactive response when drought occurs. Repair the banks of the area and plots, dredge and clear canals, implement water-saving irrigation right from the beginning of the season and arrange specific and appropriate water cut-off schedules to serve irrigation work for production well and promptly.”
Nghe An province also directed localities, based on the province's production plan, to develop specific production plans that are close to their reality in order to maximize available advantages. The plan must demonstrate high efforts, the targets must be outstanding, consistent with the actual situation, and the organizational and implementation solutions must be active and drastic to ensure victory in production.
