(Baonghean.vn) - Over the past years, Nghe An Border Guard officers and soldiers have carried out many activities to help and provide practical support to the people in the area where they are stationed; contributing to building a close relationship with the people; thereby firmly protecting the sovereignty and security of the border.

Giving wings to dreams for poor students

Ngan Van Trong is a poor student in Co Phat village, Mon Son commune, Con Cuong district. His family is very poor, his mother is often sick, his two sisters work far away. All the work falls on his father's shoulders. Life is so hard that at one point Trong thought about dropping out of school to work and help his family...

Knowing the circumstances of Trong's family, with the desire to help him have the conditions to continue going to school like his peers, Mon Son Border Guard Station adopted Trong under the model of "Border Guard Station's adopted child".

Accordingly, the Mon Son Border Guard Station has arranged suitable accommodation, food and living conditions for Ngan Van Trong; provided him with books, notebooks and study expenses; and assigned officers to directly help, tutor and guide him in his daily studies...

Mr. Ngan Van Kinh - Trong's father was very touched when receiving this support: "With the difficult circumstances of my family, I cannot continue to send my child to school. Fortunately, thanks to the Mon Son Border Guard Station coming to propagate and adopt my child as a border guard's child, he can continue to study. My family is very grateful!"

In Nghe An, the dedicated border guard "fathers" who raise poor students have become a beautiful and familiar image to the people in the border area. It is known that the whole province currently has 18 orphaned students who have been adopted by border guards to live and study at the station; there are 96 students with difficult circumstances who are supported and helped by border guards under the program "Helping children go to school - Adopted children of border guards".

In addition to the program "Helping children go to school - Adopted children of border guards", Nghe An Border Guard units are currently implementing the project "Army officers and soldiers help children go to school" (according to Resolution No. 88/2019/QH14 and Resolution No. 12/NQ-CP). Accordingly, there are 185 more ethnic minority students from grades 1 to 12 living in border areas, with difficult circumstances, being cared for and given conditions to go to school.

Teacher Vo Duc Trong - Mon Son Secondary School said: In addition to taking care of every meal and sleep for the children, the border guards also coordinate with localities and schools to grasp the living situation, family circumstances and learning results of the children to have ways to help and support them appropriately for each specific situation, helping them strive to improve in life.

Along with helping poor students, Nghe An Border Guard has organized and coordinated many social security activities, helping people in border areas develop their economy effectively.

Typically, Tam Hop Border Guard Station has sent officers to each family in the stationed area to propagate and "show hands" to help people develop production. The family of Mr. Vu Giong Chua, in Huoi Son village is one of them. Mr. Chua's family received initial financial support of 2 million VND from Tam Hop Border Guard Station to buy fertilizer; received technical advice and support and helped with labor to plant bo bo trees under the forest canopy.

After 1 year of planting and caring for 1 hectare of bo bo, Mr. Chua's family harvested 400 kg of seeds (according to market price, each kg of dried bo bo costs 20,000 VND).

Sharing his joy about the new crop variety that has been deployed and has given good results, Mr. Vu Giong Chua said: “The border guard station has helped the family grow bo bo to develop the economy, thanks to which the family has had income to repair the house. In addition to helping grow bo bo, the border guards also guide and help the family grow rice. Whenever the family needs manpower, the soldiers come to help.”

Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Van Thien - Political Commissar of Tam Hop Border Post said: "Up to now, 3 households in the area have successfully planted bo bo trees. In the coming time, the unit will continue to coordinate to expand the model to help people develop the economy right in the locality. Along with that, we will continue to deploy long-standing effective models to help people such as the 50/50 sharing model, the model of accompanying farmers to overcome difficulties, accompanying women in the border areas, and the light of the border area".

On the provincial border, depending on the conditions, customs and practices of each locality and people, the Border Guard stations have had appropriate methods and models to support people in developing their economy. To effectively implement activities to help people, the Border Guard units have selected comrades with practical experience and understanding of the customs and practices of the people to promote their ability in consulting, organizing and implementing, helping people to gradually develop their economy, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty.

Along with supporting economic development, Nghe An Border Guard also promotes volunteer activities to help people. One of them is to build a "Charity House" with items such as clothes, utensils, books and many essential necessities for daily life... when people need them, they can come and get them for free. Born from the initiative of border guards, the "Charity House" was built on the motto "Whoever needs it, come and get it, whoever has it, share it", up to now, it has received the support and sharing of many benefactors.

From the first "Volunteer House" model built in 2021 at My Ly Border Post, Bac Ly Commune, Ky Son District, up to now, on the Nghe An border line, the Provincial Border Guard has built 4 more houses in particularly difficult border communes such as: Keng Du, Na Ngoi (Ky Son); Tam Hop (Tuong Duong); Chau Khe (Con Cuong) ... becoming places to connect the love of the community.

It can be affirmed that the actions of the green-uniformed soldiers have contributed to spreading humanistic values, increasing faith in life... so that ethnic people can be more united with the border force to firmly protect the sovereignty and security of the border.

In addition to supporting the people, Nghe An Border Guard also actively participates in building the political system in the area where it is stationed. Currently, Nghe An Border Guard is maintaining 5 cadres participating in the District Party Executive Committee; 2 cadres participating in the District People's Council; 23 cadres participating in the Commune People's Council; 27 cadres strengthening border communes; introducing 81 border guard party members to temporarily transfer their activities to village and hamlet party cells; assigning 522 party members to be in charge of helping 2,387 households in border areas.

In 2023, border party members advised and coordinated with local Party committees and authorities to consolidate and perfect 149 Party cells, 104 political and social organizations, and advised localities to admit 81 new Party members.
