An honor guard greeted Russian President Vladimir Putin at Beijing airport, Sputnik correspondent reported.

Mr. Putin arrived in China for a two-day state visit.

After the welcoming ceremony, the Russian leader's motorcade left Beijing airport, escorted by Chinese police and a motorcade. The president rode in an Aurus car.

The visit will take place in two stages: On May 16, Mr. Putin will be in Beijing and on May 17 he will visit Harbin, the administrative center of Heilongjiang province.

As the President's assistant - Mr. Yury Ushakov announced, the program of the first day of the visit is expected to have many activities, first of all, contacts between the leaders of the two countries.

The meeting between President Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping will be held in a reduced and expanded format. After the high-level talks, the two sides will sign a number of agreements and documents. The leaders are then expected to issue a joint statement and meet the press.

According to Mr. Ushakov, on Thursday evening, they will talk in an intimate setting - they will talk privately over tea and take a walk in the park next to the palace. Then the exchange will continue with a small, intimate dinner with the participation of some members of the delegation.

Before that, the leaders will attend a state banquet hosted by the President of the People's Republic of China and a grand concert to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the start of a year of cultural exchange between the two countries.

In addition, a private meeting between Mr. Putin and Premier of the Central Committee of the People's Republic of China Li Qiang has also been planned.
