In Ben Thuy ward, there is Vinh University - the largest university in the province, therefore, the demand for student accommodation is very large.

According to statistics, the whole ward currently has 499 households operating rental rooms. Of these, 62 are high-rise rental houses (2 floors or more) managed by Vinh City Police, the remaining rental houses are managed by the ward.

According to observations, the boarding houses in the ward are built close together, many high-rise boarding houses are surrounded by iron cages. When a fire occurs, the solid iron bars will become barriers, making it difficult for victims to escape and for authorities to access the scene.

The working group inspected the boarding house of Mr. Cao Xuan Phuong's family on Bach Lieu Street. This boarding house has 6 floors with a total of 40 rooms, which are currently basically fully occupied.

Camera systems, fire alarm systems have been installed on all floors and rooms, and fire extinguishers have been equipped on the stairs. However, on the first floor of the motel, vehicles are still left in disarray, obstructing the way. Windows on all floors have been welded with sturdy stainless steel bars, which will affect the ability to escape as well as the rescue work of the authorities if a fire or explosion occurs.

The working group also inspected Mr. Phan Thanh Hai’s boarding house in Block 6. This house has 5 floors with 24 rooms, and is fully occupied. Although fire exits have been installed on the balcony, on all floors of the house, the entire hallway is cluttered with items such as shoes, kitchen utensils, tables and chairs, etc., making it difficult to move around.

The parking area on the first floor also obstructs the passage, some fire extinguishers are old, not ensuring fire prevention.

The remaining boarding houses have common characteristics such as narrow entrances, many motorbikes and other items and furniture. Many boarding houses extend their balconies with iron cages, and tenants are still subjective about fire prevention.

The working group reminded the landlords in the area to strictly implement fire prevention and fighting measures, including opening emergency exits, dismantling illegal extensions, and equipping them with fire-fighting equipment such as fire extinguishers, gas masks, escape ropes, etc.

Propaganda and remind tenants to raise awareness of fire prevention and fighting. In the coming time, the working group will continue to inspect, especially during the peak hot season. If the landlord does not fully implement fire prevention measures, they will be severely punished according to regulations.

In recent times, there have been many fires causing great loss of life and property across the country. Recently, a fire at a family home and a rental house on Trung Kinh Street, Trung Hoa Ward, Cau Giay District, Hanoi killed 14 people. This is an alarm bell about the lack of fire safety in high-rise apartments and boarding houses.

In Vinh city, high-rise boarding houses are built in many localities such as Ben Thuy, Truong Thi, Trung Do...

The situation of apartment owners expanding tiger cages still appears in apartment buildings, so there are still many potential risks of fire and explosion, especially during the hot season.
