On the afternoon of May 31, in Nam Thanh commune, Yen Thanh, we saw vast fields submerged in water. Mr. Nguyen Tho Luc in Tay Ho hamlet, Nam Thanh commune, said: The heavy rain last night and this morning has submerged 5 sao of rice that was planted more than 10 days ago. If the water does not recede in 3-4 days, we will have to plant seedlings and re-cultivate the land to plant rice.

Mr. Hoang Van Sam - Chairman of Nam Thanh Commune People's Committee shared: As of this afternoon, May 31, the entire Nam Thanh commune is flooded over 130/262 hectares of summer-autumn rice. Currently, the commune is mobilizing forces to clear sewers and canals to drain water. However, the water recedes quite slowly, there is a risk that many areas will have to be re-cultivated for rice cultivation.

A representative of Long Thanh commune People's Committee added: Most of the flooded areas are 30-50 cm deep. If the water does not recede in the next 2 days, many rice areas will be damaged.

Due to high tides, the Dien Thanh and Dien Thuy sluices (Dien Chau) cannot be opened to drain, so the water is currently receding slowly. The district has directed the communes to stick to the fields, focusing on clearing canals and drains to drain the flood. After the water recedes, check the areas to fix the problem such as pruning and replanting severely damaged rice areas.
