According to RIA Novosti on June 6, Ukrainian political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko said that Kiev will not be able to achieve its goals at the upcoming summit in Switzerland.

“Gradually, the summit is turning into a forum, because the status of the conference is only a place to facilitate discussions between authorized individuals, in order to make specific decisions,” said political scientist Bondarenko.

According to Mr. Bondarenko, another goal of Ukraine is to attract the maximum number of countries from the Southern Hemisphere to participate in the conference, in order to create a factor of strong pressure on Russia.

However, Mr. Bondarenko said, Ukraine failed to achieve "both the first and second goals".

Any document adopted at the summit will be an "empty" statement and there will be no binding agreement, since only "inappropriate people" will be present at the summit, the Ukrainian political scientist pointed out.

“Some final statement will be made, for example: ‘We believe that it is necessary to carry out a prisoner exchange.’ Then Russia will respond: ‘We will take note, thank you,’” Mr. Bondarenko said.

The Ukraine Peace Summit will be held in Switzerland on June 15-16, in the city of Lucerne. Representatives of about 160 countries have been invited to attend, including Russia.

The Kremlin said in a statement that seeking solutions to end the Ukraine conflict without Russia's participation is "completely illogical, futile and almost a waste of time"./.
