TASS news agency reported on June 14 that in an article in Rossiyskaya Gazeta, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and Chairman of the United Russia party, Dmitry Medvedev, said that the West is shifting to a policy of global neocolonialism.

Mr. Medvedev called for a radical strengthening of the interaction of all progressive forces to combat neocolonialism.

“Unrelenting interference in the affairs of independent states has occurred and, unfortunately, continues in various forms,” Medvedev said.

According to Mr. Medvedev, Western countries intend to act “in the conditions of transition from neocolonialism, nationalism, isolationism to globalism, that is, a system of unequal economic and political relations imposed by Western countries on the rest of the world, based on their military power.”

The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council believes that it is time to “increase the interaction of all progressive forces in the fight against neocolonialism”, which is preventing many countries from “following the path of sustainable and equitable development”. According to Mr. Medvedev, solving this long-standing and complex problem requires a special approach and joint efforts.

“Humanity has been faced with neocolonial practices for a long period of history. The term “neocolonialism” itself was firmly applied in the middle of the last century, to refer to the approach that the old cities adopted at that time to limit the development of young countries, almost compensating for their own losses due to the decolonization process,” the chairman of the United Russia party said.

Citing assessments by American experts on the political characteristics of neocolonialism, Mr. Medvedev said that from 1946 to 2000, the United States intervened in the electoral process in other countries more than 80 times, and since 1945, they have carried out more than 50 coup attempts and military interventions.

Calling the United States a “global new metropolis,” Medvedev stressed that “one of the most important tools for implementing such a roadmap of the new metropolis is unilateral sanctions contrary to international law.”

He drew particular attention to the fact that “of the 174 cases of restrictive measures in the 20th century, 109 were initiated by the United States, and they achieved a change in political course in unwanted countries in 80 cases.”

“In fact, the United States has become a new metropolis of global sanctions. In its activities, Washington actively applies not only primary sanctions, but also secondary sanctions, seeking to weaken foreign, trade and economic measures,” the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council said.

Mr. Medvedev believes that “Washington's attempts to justify its aggressive and illegal actions with a broad interpretation of the territorial principle cannot stand up to criticism”./.
