On the morning of June 20th, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened the first-instance trial of defendant Nguyen Van Hue (born in 1989), residing in Nghia Binh commune, Tan Ky district, on the charge of "murder".
It is known that earlier, at around 6 PM on September 27, 2023, Nguyen Van Hue and Le Van T. (born in 1977), who lived in the same hamlet, were invited to a baby's one-month celebration party at a family's house in the commune. Le Van T. left after finishing his meal, while Nguyen Van Hue did not leave until 11 PM that same day.

When Hue arrived home, she found Mr. T. waiting for her at the gate to "talk." As soon as Hue got out of the car, Mr. T. approached and grabbed her by the neck, leading to a struggle between the two right in front of Hue's house. Seeing what was happening, Ms. H. (Hue's wife) intervened and advised Mr. T. to go home and sleep.
However, instead of going home, Mr. T followed Huệ and her husband into the house. When Huệ went into the kitchen to get a drink of water, Mr. T followed her. There, although Huệ begged Mr. T to go home so she could go to sleep, the victim still grabbed her neck. In a fit of rage, Huệ ran and grabbed a family knife and stabbed Mr. T in the stomach.
Immediately, Mr. T. was taken to the hospital by nearby residents, but due to the severity of his injuries, he died shortly afterward. The victim was determined to have died from acute circulatory failure caused by a punctured liver. Upon receiving news of Mr. T.'s death, Hue went to the district police station to surrender.
At the trial, Nguyen Van Hue offered his apologies to the victim's family. The victim's family also did not request any further compensation and agreed to a reduced sentence for the defendant.
The court determined that Nguyen Van Hue, out of anger at Mr. T. for attacking him in his house at midnight, took the victim's life, causing immense loss to the victim's family and disrupting public order in the locality. However, at the time of the incident, Hue turned himself in and sincerely confessed his guilt, and also arranged for his family to compensate Mr. T.'s family with 200 million VND.
Based on the evidence, testimonies, and details in the case file, the panel of judges decided to sentence Nguyen Van Hue to 10 years in prison for murder.
