Vietnam U16 team lost heavily to Indonesia at Southeast Asian tournament
The Vietnam U16 team suffered a 5-0 defeat against Indonesia at the 2024 Southeast Asian U16 tournament.
On the afternoon of July 3, the third-place match between the U16 Vietnam team and U16 Indonesia at the 2024 Southeast Asian U16 Championship took place.
Before the match, the Vietnam U16 team faced difficulties in terms of personnel when nearly half of the starting lineup was injured after the semi-final match with Thailand U16. For this reason, coach Tran Minh Chien gave many reserve players a chance to enter the field.
On the side of the U16 Indonesian team, important players were also given a rest, thereby creating conditions for players who have not played much to have the opportunity to practice.
In the first minutes of the first half, both teams played slowly and tentatively. The U16 Vietnam team tried to launch an attack, holding the ball firmly. However, the U16 Indonesia team also defended very tightly.

In the following minutes, the U16 Vietnam team had three consecutive shots in the U16 Indonesia penalty area by Thai Hieu and Duy Dang but could not open the score.
In the 37th minute, goalkeeper Xuan Tin punched the ball away for a corner kick from Zahaby Gholy's difficult free kick on the right wing.
The first half seemed to end in a 0-0 draw, but the home team scored in the 45th minute. From a pass from an Indonesian U16 player, the Vietnam U16 midfielder missed the ball and Zahaby Gholy ran down to finish past goalkeeper Xuan Tin.

Not yet, 4 minutes later, from an attack by U16 Indonesia, Zaidan finished with a low shot to the near corner, defeating Xuan Tin for the second time. The first half ended with a temporary score of 2-0 in favor of the home team.
In the second half, U16 Vietnam tried to put pressure to find a chance to score and shorten the gap. In the 58th minute, U16 Vietnam was awarded a free kick outside the penalty area. Manh Cuong's kick, although on target, was too weak.
In the middle of the second half, the match was tense with fierce tackles from both sides. U16 Vietnam was stuck in finding a goal to shorten the score.
In the 76th minute, too focused on attacking, U16 Vietnam conceded the third goal after Daniel's shot. Two minutes later, Zahaby Gholy increased the score to 4-0 for the home team. In the 82nd minute, Daniel sealed the 5-0 victory for U16 Indonesia.
The Vietnam U16 team accepted defeat with a heavy score of 0-5 and left the Southeast Asian tournament with 4th place overall./.
