Prime Minister approves 7 fishing ports, 5 storm shelters in Nghe An

The planning of the fishing port system and storm shelters for fishing vessels for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, has just been approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 582/QD-TTg, dated July 3, 2024.

Accordingly, fishing ports and storm shelters for fishing vessels are important parts of fisheries infrastructure, socio-economic infrastructure, identified as one of three strategic breakthroughs that need investment to serve effective fisheries exploitation, socio-economic development and social security, associated with improving people's material and spiritual lives.

The specific goal by 2030 is to complete and effectively put into operation the system of fishing ports and storm shelters for fishing vessels nationwide into a complete, inter-regional, industrialized and modernized system to meet the needs of anchoring, fishing logistics services and develop in an integrated direction, increasing the value of exploitation and use.

Specifically, the fishing port system can ensure the passage of 2.98 million tons of aquatic products each year; the storm shelter anchorage system for fishing vessels can ensure the capacity of over 83,600 fishing vessels to safely anchor and avoid storms.

In the national master plan, Nghe An has 7 fishing ports included in the plan, including 3 type I fishing ports, 2 type II fishing ports and 2 type III fishing ports.

3 type I fishing ports in Nghe An include:

Cua Hoi fishing port in Nghi Hai ward, Cua Lo town can receive 120 fishing boats with a maximum length of 40m per day, with 25,000 tons of aquatic products passing through the port each year.

Lach Quen fishing port in Tien Thuy and Quynh Thuan communes, Quynh Luu district, can receive 200 fishing boats with a maximum length of 35m per day, with 30,000 tons of aquatic products passing through the port each year.

Lach Con fishing port in Quynh Phuong ward and Quynh Lap commune, Hoang Mai town, can receive 120 fishing boats with a maximum length of 35m per day, with 25,000 tons of aquatic products passing through the port each year.

2 type II fishing ports include:

Lach Van Port in Dien Ngoc and Dien Bich communes, Dien Chau district, can receive 100 fishing boats with a maximum length of 24m per day, with an annual volume of 15,000 tons of aquatic products passing through the port.

Lach Lo Port in Nghi Tan and Nghi Thuy wards, Cua Lo town, can receive 50 fishing boats with a maximum length of 30m per day, with an annual volume of 15,000 tons of aquatic products passing through the port.

2 type III fishing ports include:

Quynh Nghia Port in Quynh Nghia Commune, Quynh Luu District, can accommodate 20 ships with a maximum length of 24m per day, with an annual volume of 3,000 tons of aquatic products passing through the port.

Lach Thoi Port in Son Hai Commune, Quynh Luu District, can accommodate 20 ships with a maximum length of 24m per day, with an annual volume of 3,000 tons of aquatic products passing through the port.

In addition, Nghe An province also plans to have 5 storm shelter anchorage areas for fishing boats, including 2 regional anchorage areas and 3 provincial anchorage areas, specifically.

2 regional storm shelters include:Lach Quen is located in the communes of Tien Thuy and Quynh Nghia, Quynh Luu district and at Lach Con, through the wards of Quynh Phuong, Quynh Di, Quynh Thien and the communes of Quynh Lap, Quynh Loc, Hoang Mai town. These two anchorage areas both have a capacity of 1,000 fishing boats with a maximum length of 35m each.

3 provincial storm shelters include:At Lach Van, the section through the communes of Dien Ky, Dien Van, Dien Kim, Dien Bich and Dien Ngoc, Dien Chau district, has a capacity of 650 fishing boats; at Lach Lo, the section through Nghi Quang commune, Nghi Loc district, has a capacity of 600 fishing boats; and at Lach Thoi, the section through Son Hai and Quynh Ngoc communes, Quynh Luu district, has a capacity of 350 boats. The length of the largest fishing boat that can anchor at these 3 ports is 24m.

According to the plan, in the 2021 - 2030 period, Lach Quen fishing port and the storm shelter anchorage area for fishing boats at Lach Con will be prioritized for upgrading.
