Spain beat England to win EURO 2024.
The Spanish national team won the EURO 2024 championship after defeating England 2-1.
The EURO 2024 final was a clash between two teams with contrasting styles. Spain played an impressive attacking game, while England employed a highly effective, pragmatic style. At the Olympiastadion (Berlin, Germany), the attacking team emerged victorious.
The first half unfolded exactly as expected from both teams. Spain dominated possession (almost 70% of the time, according to Whoscored data).

The England team rarely attacked. However, in a defensive game, the "Three Lions" played very tightly. Their defense effectively neutralized Spain's two most dangerous players, Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams.
England were more successful in the first half. They frustrated their opponents. Meanwhile, the only shot on target in the first half was taken by an English player (Phil Foden).
After a dull first half, the match became more exciting as soon as play resumed. Yamal assisted Williams for the opening goal in Spain's first attack of the second half.
England were forced to play offensively. When their opponents dropped deep into defense, Spain had more opportunities to score, but Dani Olmo and Alvaro Morata both missed chances in one-on-one situations with the goalkeeper.

In a difficult situation, coach Gareth Southgate surprisingly substituted Harry Kane, followed by Kobbie Mainoo. The adjustments proved effective. Cole Palmer – one of the two players who came on – scored a spectacular long-range shot to equalize.
However, Spain also made effective substitutions. Mikel Oyarzabal – who had come on for Morata earlier – passed the ball to the left wing and then ran into the penalty area to receive a pass from Marc Cucurella. The Spanish striker's close-range finish was the decisive goal that helped Spain win the EURO 2024 championship.
