Scammers impersonating police officers steal over 1 billion VND.
The police have initiated criminal proceedings and temporarily detained Mai Thế Dũng (born in 1968) for investigation into the act of fraud and appropriation of property.
Previously, the Tra Vinh Provincial Police received a report from citizens about an individual using a Zalo social media account to befriend people and falsely claiming to be working in the police force, with many connections to provincial leaders and the Director of the Tra Vinh Provincial Police.
The victim, trusting the perpetrator, repeatedly transferred over 1 billion VND to the suspect in exchange for securing a job for a relative in the police force. After receiving the money, the suspect deleted all contact information to prevent the victim from contacting him and thus embezzled the funds.
AgencyinvestigateHaving gathered sufficient evidence, the investigation determined that the case involved Mai Thế Dũng (residing in Long Hữu commune, Duyên Hải town). Through investigative methods, the investigating agency located and arrested Mai Thế Dũng while he was hiding in Mỏ Cày Nam district (Bến Tre province).
