Lao General Secretary and President highly appreciates the role of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

The Lao Party General Secretary and President stated that the Lao Party, State and people always remember the great and important contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in consolidating and nurturing the Vietnam-Laos relationship.

On the morning of July 26, at the Government Office, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith and his wife on the occasion of General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith leading a high-ranking delegation of the Lao Party, State and People to Vietnam to attend the State Funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully expressed his deepest and most sincere thanks to the Lao Party, State and People in general, as well as to the Lao General Secretary and President and his wife in particular, for their sincere and fraternal feelings for the Party, State and People of Vietnam upon the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; in particular, Laos held a two-day State Funeral to commemorate General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, thereby demonstrating the special, loyal and unique relationship between the two countries.

The Prime Minister emphasized that during his lifetime, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong always paid great attention to preserving, constantly consolidating and developing the special traditional relationship between Vietnam and Laos; and thanked the wife of the General Secretary and President of Laos for sending a very touching letter to the wife of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

On behalf of the Lao Party, State and People, General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith expressed his emotion and sent his deepest condolences and deepest comradely affection to the Party, State and People of Vietnam as well as to the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; emphasizing that the passing of the General Secretary is not only a great loss to the Party, State and People of Vietnam, but the Lao Party, State and People have also lost a great comrade and friend who they are extremely close to.

The Lao Party, State and People always remember the great, important and valuable contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in consolidating and nurturing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and Peoples over the past time.

The Lao General Secretary and President highly appreciated the role of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, as the head of the Communist Party of Vietnam, in leading the Vietnamese people to achieve many great achievements in the cause of Renovation, national construction and development as well as enhancing the role and position in the region and in the international arena.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated Laos on its achievements in recent times; affirmed that the Party, State and People of Vietnam always strongly and comprehensively support Laos's cause of innovation, national protection and construction; and believed that the Lao People's Revolutionary Party under the leadership of General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith will successfully implement the Resolution of the 11th National Party Congress and successfully assume important international responsibilities in 2024.

Regarding the direction of promoting bilateral relations in the coming time, the two sides agreed to continue to closely coordinate to effectively implement the high-level agreements of the two countries, the results of the 46th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee, and the results of the State visit to Laos by President To Lam; increase the exchange of delegations at all levels, promote defense and security cooperation as important pillars; continue to consolidate the legal foundation to promote increasingly comprehensive and extensive cooperation; effectively promote economic, trade and investment cooperation, create more favorable conditions for enterprises of the two countries to invest and do business in each country; focus on removing obstacles in the implementation of important projects; continue to pay attention to and focus on cooperation in education, culture, tourism, banking, labor, etc. and promote people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

Discussing cooperation at multilateral forums, the two sides agreed to continue to regularly exchange experiences, closely coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums, especially at ASEAN, the United Nations and sub-regional cooperation mechanisms.
