Nghe An Education Sector takes initiative to adapt to the new General Education Program

That was the direction of Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Bui Dinh Long at the conference to summarize the 2023-2024 school year and deploy tasks for the 2024-2025 school year taking place on the afternoon of August 9.
The conference was held in person and online with the participation of leaders, heads of education and training departments, and representatives of schools from 21 districts, cities, and towns.

The main bridge was chaired by comrades: Bui Dinh Long - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Thai Van Thanh - Director of the Department of Education and Training.

Nghe An education quality rises to the top of the country

Speaking at the conference, the Director of the Department of Education and Training reviewed the achievements of Nghe An Education sector in the past school year. This is a school year in which the whole sector has made great efforts, reaching the top of the country in both key education and mass education. In particular, the most notable is that Nghe An has risen to 12th place in the High School Graduation Exam, 10 places higher than the previous school year.

In the 2023-2024 school year, Nghe An ranked 4th in the National Excellent Student Competition, with 90 students winning prizes, including 6 students winning regional and international medals. The Nghe An student delegation participating in the National Phu Dong Sports Festival ranked 1st in the entire delegation of Region III, and ranked 5th out of 63 provinces and cities in terms of total medals.

To achieve the above results, in the past year, the Education sector has promptly advised on the development of policies, mechanisms, strategies, planning, and merging schools and classes to ensure effective implementation of the 2018 General Education Program.

In addition, ensure financial resources, facilities and teaching equipment, innovate industry management and school governance, and build a comprehensive educational environment. By July 2024, the whole province will have 1,120 schools meeting national standards, reaching a rate of 78.5%; completing the target of universalizing lower secondary education level 2. The quality of preschool education, primary education, general education, and continuing education has made remarkable progress.

Regarding vocational education, university education has also seen positive changes, contributing to raising the rate of trained laborers in the province to 69%. Many universities have done well in enrollment, and training quality continues to be affirmed.

Be proactive in adapting to the new General Education Program

In addition to the achieved results, the Director of the Department of Education and Training also pointed out the difficulties and shortcomings. The Education sector also determined that although ranked 12th, to maintain the top position sustainably, there are still many challenges.

Therefore, the task in the coming time is to continue to consolidate schools, carry out digital transformation in education, promote comprehensive improvement of the quality of secondary education to lay the foundation for other levels of education; pay attention to developing education in mountainous areas.

Due to the special nature of the 2024-2025 school year, the first year to implement exams under the new General Education Program, there will be many changes in the organization of teaching and learning and the implementation of exams. Therefore, the Department of Education and Training will soon have a preparation plan to help schools and students be proactive in organizing teaching and learning, proactively adapting to the new exams.

At the conference, representatives of schools and localities gave presentations sharing experiences in planning school networks, implementing quality assurance, life skills education, building national standard schools, etc.

Concluding the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Bui Dinh Long congratulated the achievements of the education sector in the past school year. In addition, he also frankly pointed out the shortcomings and inadequacies such as the lack of schools and classes, the prolonged shortage of teachers, and the gap in education quality between regions.

From the results achieved, comrade Bui Dinh Long suggested that the education sector should publicize the results so that schools and localities can evaluate objectively and learn from the implementation process. In the coming school year, the whole sector needs to review the school network system and organize the apparatus to suit the practical situation. Continue to replicate and spread good models, create conditions for teachers to shine and develop their capacity, and consider training quality and teacher quality as the brand of the school.

In addition, it is necessary to review regulations on some administrative procedures at schools and cut down some administrative procedures for teachers so that teachers and schools can focus on teaching and promote digital applications.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also highly appreciated the role of localities. If they do well, it will create momentum for schools, but if they do not do well, it will affect the quality of education in the whole province. In the coming time, localities need to quickly reduce the number of separate schools to implement the new General Education Program and contribute to improving the quality of education in mountainous areas. Localities also need to be open and transparent in recruiting teachers to ensure that there are enough teachers for the right classes and to recruit qualified teachers.

Regarding general education and university education, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested that educational institutions need to improve the quality of education, and the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs must take responsibility for the activities of the units and properly perform their functions and tasks.

At the year-end conference, authorized by the President, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Bui Dinh Long awarded the Third Class Labor Medal to Mr. Vo Van Mai - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training and Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Head of the Secondary Education Department, Department of Education and Training for their outstanding achievements in education and training, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland.
