Dien Chau District has undergone a dramatic transformation after 13 years of implementing the New Rural Development program.

After more than 13 years of implementing the New Rural Development program, Dien Chau district has undergone a significant transformation. Many multi-story houses have sprung up in residential areas, village roads and alleys have been widened, and the material and spiritual lives of the people have improved noticeably.
Dien Chau District is a coastal plain in Nghe An Province. The district comprises 36 communes and 1 town. In 2010, the district began implementing the New Rural Development program. Overcoming numerous difficulties and challenges, the government and people of Dien Chau District have worked together to meet the criteria, and the district has now been recognized as a New Rural Development standard district in 2023 according to Decision No. 173/QD-TTg, dated February 7, 2024, of the Prime Minister. Photo: Xuan Hoang)Dien Chau District has many major roads running through it, such as National Highway 1A, National Highway 7A, 7B, National Highway 48, and the North-South railway... Most recently, two key national projects, the North-South expressway and the coastal road, both pass through Dien Chau District, contributing to the strong economic and social development of the locality. According to statistics, the entire district has 224.3 km of paved or concrete roads meeting standards, achieving a 100% completion rate; an increase of 134.5 km, or 60.19%, compared to 2010. The main roads connecting communes and inter-communal roads in the district basically meet the minimum roadbed width of 6.0 m and the minimum road surface width of 3.5 m, ensuring convenient year-round vehicle access. Photo: Quang An)The criteria for building a green, clean, beautiful, and safe environment in the new rural development program have been given great attention by Dien Chau district. The district has directed communes to regularly launch and implement these initiatives through activities such as planting flowers and trees along roads; and conducting weekly environmental sanitation campaigns in each commune, town, agency, and school. Throughout the district, 367.155 km out of 1,748.75 km (20.995%) of roads have been planted with flowers and trees. To date, the entire district has 31 OCOP products achieving 3-4 stars or higher, all of which are popular in the market and have stable outlets. Products achieving 4 stars include: Sy Thang lotus peanuts, Van Phan fermented fish sauce; Products achieving 3 stars include: Sy Thang peanut oil; Dien Chau peeled shrimp; Dien Phong cabbage (from THQ Cooperative); Chien Vinh oyster mushrooms, medicinal herbs, and reishi mushrooms (Chien Vinh Co., Ltd.) in Dien Ky; Luc Thanh Dien Van peanut brittle, An An noodles (Agri Company) in Dien Thanh; Dien Nguyen shallots; Dien Thai coriander; Dien Trung VietGAP chicken eggs; and Tuyet Hoang pork sausage. By 2023, Dien Chau district had 36 out of 36 communes meeting the new rural standards (100%); 8 out of 36 communes achieved advanced new rural standards, including Dien Lam, Dien Ky, Dien Hong, Dien Thai, Dien Nguyen, Dien Xuan, Dien Thap, and Dien Phuc. The district also completed all 9 criteria for a new rural district.
With that achievement, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 173/QD-TTg on February 7, 2024, recognizing Dien Chau district, Nghe An province, as having met the standards of a New Rural District in 2023. On August 17, 2024, Dien Chau district will solemnly hold a ceremony to receive this prestigious title.
