USD exchange rate today August 18: The State Bank announced the central exchange rate of the Vietnamese Dong to the USD decreased by 6 VND this week, currently at: 24,254 VND.

The USD Index (DXY), which measures the greenback's performance against six major currencies, fell 0.71% to 102.40 this week.
The US dollar has been volatile this past week, reflecting investors’ concerns about the possibility of the US Federal Reserve (Fed) adjusting interest rates. After falling sharply on August 14 due to expectations of cooling inflation, the US dollar recovered by the end of the week.

The volatility of the USD is mainly due to investors constantly adjusting their expectations about the Fed's monetary policy.
Despite ending the week down, the USD has been on a recovery trend towards the end of the week, suggesting that uncertainty remains.
Currently, the market is pricing in a higher chance of the Fed cutting 25 basis points next month.
"Fear of aggressive Fed rate cuts has been eased and Fed officials are seen as being more cautious in their response to the easing cycle," said Karl Schamotta, chief market strategist at Corpay.
The US dollar has seen some strong fluctuations over the past week. However, the overall trend remains unclear and will continue to depend on new information about the US economy and the Fed's decisions.

In the domestic market, at the beginning of the trading session on August 18, the State Bank announced the central exchange rate of the Vietnamese Dong against the USD decreased by 6 VND this week, currently at 24,254 VND.
* The reference exchange rate at the State Bank's transaction office remains unchanged, currently at: 23,400 VND - 25,450 VND.
