At this time, in Nghi Dong commune, Nghi Loc district, we see the whole rice field is in the flowering period, in which many areas are dry. Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh, a local resident said: Her family grows 3 sao of rice and is currently lacking water, because Khe Xiem lake, Nghi Dong has run out of water.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tam - Chairman of Nghi Dong Commune People's Committee added: The whole commune has over 120 hectares of summer-autumn rice and 50 hectares of corn and peanut crops that are currently lacking water due to the drying up of Khe Xiem reservoir. Faced with the above situation, since August 15, Nghi Loc Irrigation Enterprise has coordinated with the locality to install 2 large-capacity field oil pumps to take water from the reservoir to save the rice..

The field pump system takes water from the reservoir and pumps it into the N1 canal. The water source is operated according to the principle of “watering from high places first, watering from low places later”. Irrigation workers coordinate with people in hamlets and communes to bring water to the fields, and the commune government propagates and encourages people to use water economically.

A representative of Nam Irrigation Limited Liability Company said: 2 large capacity field oil pumps pump water from the lake bed to 1,080 m.3/hour, pumped 24/24, expected to last 8-10 days to meet rice irrigation needs, because at this stage the rice is in the very important flowering period.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghi Loc district, the district currently has 40 reservoirs, the water level is only 30-35%, of which many are depleted. Currently, the district is directing communes with rice fields lacking water to take advantage of surface water sources such as ponds, lakes, dead-end rivers, and recirculating water sources, and use field oil pumps to save rice. It is recommended that people use water sparingly to ensure good growth of rice plants./.
