Fugitive from custody continues to commit fraud and embezzle property.
The police in Hoang Mai town (Nghe An province) have arrested Le Quang Vu (born in 1990), residing in Man Thai ward, Son Tra district, Da Nang city, for the crime of "fraudulent appropriation of property".
Previously, on August 13, 2024, the unit received a report from Ms. Nguyen Hoang My Hanh (born in 1987), residing in Dong Phu ward, Dong Hoi city, Quang Binh province, stating that on August 8, 2024, she was scammed by an individual using a fake Facebook account impersonating a shipping company. The individual promised to transport three rolls of Hoa Sen corrugated iron worth 350,032,000 VND for her, and then misappropriated the money.
Immediately after receiving the report, the Hoang Mai Town Police conducted an initial investigation, determining that the suspect used a very sophisticated scam, frequently changing contact phone numbers. After reporting and seeking guidance, under the direct direction of the Provincial Police leadership, the Hoang Mai Town Police established a special case, mobilizing maximum resources to focus on combating and apprehending the suspect.
After a period of investigation, the Hoang Mai Town Police identified the perpetrator as Le Quang Vu (born in 1990), residing in Man Thai Ward, Son Tra District, Da Nang City. Vu was wanted by the Criminal Investigation Agency of Hoa Vang District Police, Da Nang City, for the crime of "Illegally possessing the property of others" and by the Criminal Investigation Agency of Quy Nhon City Police, Binh Dinh Province, for the crime of "Abusing trust to appropriate property".
During his time on the run, the suspect did not contact his family, frequently changing his phone number and address to evade the police, making the arrest extremely difficult. However, with a determination to fight crime to the end, the Hoang Mai Town Police mobilized maximum resources and employed a comprehensive range of investigative methods to continue gathering information and verifying details related to Le Quang Vu.
On August 29th, after gathering sufficient evidence and relevant documents, under the direction of the Provincial Police leadership, the Hoang Mai Town Police successfully cracked the case, arresting Le Quang Vu while he was hiding in Hue City, Thua Thien Hue Province, and safely escorting him to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Hoang Mai Town Police.
At the police station, Le Quang Vu confessed to the entire act of defrauding Ms. Nguyen Hoang My Hanh of 3 rolls of Hoa Sen corrugated iron. After the fraud, he transported all the stolen goods to Thai Nguyen province to sell them and used the money for personal expenses.
During the investigation, the Hoang Mai Town Police determined that, in addition to the fraud case involving Ms. Hanh and the two cases for which the suspect is currently wanted, using similar methods and tactics, on August 15, 2024, Le Quang Vu committed fraud by stealing 21 tons of uninsulated cable rolls and 110 sets of nail tools, with a total value of over 500 million VND (the case is currently being handled by the Son Tra District Police, Da Nang City).
Previously, on July 22, 2024, the suspect committed fraud by stealing iron used for construction scaffolding, with a total value of over 400 million VND (the case is currently being handled by the Thuan Thanh Town Police, Bac Ninh Province).
According to authorities, to date, they have clarified that Le Quang Vu, who has two outstanding arrest warrants, committed five crimes in the provinces and cities of Da Nang, Binh Dinh, Bac Ninh, and Nghe An, with a total value of stolen assets estimated at approximately 1.5 billion VND.
Currently, the Hoang Mai Town Police Investigation Agency has issued a decision to temporarily detain Le Quang Vu and is continuing to gather documents and evidence to expand the investigation into the case.
