Khe Bo Hydropower Plant ensures safe operation during the 2024 storm season

Entering the 2024 storm season, Khe Bo Hydropower Plant has implemented a plan to ensure the safety of the lake, dam, people and property in the downstream area; operate power production effectively, and be ready to respond to situations caused by storms.

According to the forecast of Nghe An Province Hydrometeorological Station, in 2024, due to the continued impact of climate change, natural disasters will be more complicated, including heat waves, thunderstorms, and rain with higher than normal levels compared to the same period last year; rain, storms, floods, and inundation may appear more frequently, concentrated in mid to late 2024.

Aware of the seriousness of natural disasters, Vietnam Electricity Development Joint Stock Company (the parent company of Khe Bo Hydropower Plant) and the Management Board of Khe Bo Hydropower Plant always uphold the spirit of proactiveness, ready to respond to all possible situations, ensuring safe, stable and reliable operation.

The company has directed the factory to strictly implement the reservoir operation process approved by the competent authority. The work of reviewing and supplementing the natural disaster response plan for the project, the downstream of the dam and the emergency response plan; organizing drills according to the approved plan has been carried out by the factory since the first half of 2024.

The factory also regularly assesses the condition of the dam; equipment, flood discharge works, water intake gates, etc. to promptly correct defects (if any), ensure the safety of the works, and minimize pressure on downstream works when having to discharge floods.

In addition, the plant maintains coordination with the North Central Hydrometeorological Station to receive hydrometeorological forecast data to serve the operation of the reservoir. The company also proactively speeds up the procurement of equipment to collect and process meteorological monitoring data to proactively grasp possible weather fluctuations. Ensure close coordination with localities and relevant agencies to promptly and widely announce the flood discharge process to people in the downstream area to proactively prevent, thereby minimizing damage to people, property of people and related works.
