About half of the coffee area in Dak Nong is planted with vegetative varieties, resulting in low productivity and quality. Current coffee production is not really sustainable and does not take full advantage of the province's soil and climate.

To date, nearly 30,000 hectares of coffee have been replanted in Dak Nong province, helping to increase productivity by 0.5 to 1.5 tons/ha compared to before. Training courses and seminars have been organized to guide farmers on how to replant and improve coffee. People have proactively replanted coffee, creating coffee gardens with high productivity and quality.

Farmers apply new coffee production models, combining intercropping with high-value crops such as fruit trees, pepper, macadamia, etc., adapting to climate change, bringing high economic efficiency. In addition, to improve coffee productivity and quality, farmers need to replace old coffee trees with new high-quality varieties that are resistant to rust such as TR4, TR9, TR11, TRS1, etc.

Every year, in the third quarter, people in the Central Highlands begin harvesting coffee. Some growers have started harvesting early, but the overall situation is not very optimistic with the domestic market quiet before the new 2024/25 crop season.

Coffee prices are expected to fall in October as Vietnam begins its harvest due to increased supply. Drought has reduced the size of coffee cherries, leading to an expected 10% to 15% reduction in production. Domestically, drought has also reduced coffee yields, but high coffee prices have helped growers earn better incomes than last year.

The forecast suggests a fourth consecutive global coffee deficit, driven by lower output in Vietnam and Brazil, but prices will remain supported by fundamentals in the coming months. Both countries have been hit by poor weather, with prolonged heatwaves affecting the flowering and fruiting stages of coffee trees.
