Vietnam's pepper market is witnessing a price decline due to increased supply from Indonesia and India, forecast to increase by 5-6% in 2024. Vietnam's pepper exports to China decreased by 84.1% in the first 9 months of 2024, reflecting economic difficulties and reduced consumer demand in China.
Domestic demand for pepper has decreased due to competition from substitute products such as chili and black pepper. Traditional import markets have stopped buying pepper after importing large quantities, waiting to see what the market will do next. These factors have combined to create downward pressure on Vietnamese pepper prices recently.
In 2024, the Vietnamese pepper industry is forecast to achieve a record revenue of US$1.3 billion thanks to favorable export prices. Although domestic pepper prices have decreased, export prices remain high due to strong international demand. However, the world pepper market can change abruptly due to factors such as trade policy, weather and consumer demand.

In September 2024, Vietnam exported a total of 17,138 tons of pepper, including 15,232 tons of black pepper and 1,906 tons of white pepper.
Pepper export revenue in September reached 109.8 million USD, with black pepper accounting for 94.8 million USD and white pepper at 15.0 million USD. There is a difference between the Association's export figures and those from the General Department of Customs, causing total pepper export revenue in the first 9 months to fall short of 1 billion USD.
The report also pointed out that pepper exports are slowing down, and investment capital tends to shift to the coffee industry, leading to a decrease in domestic pepper prices. The high US dollar in the world market also contributed to the decrease in international pepper prices.
