Tips for taking care of sunroof to avoid water leakage
Sunroof is an attractive feature for customers, however, if not properly checked and maintained, it will cause many problems, especially water leakage, water flowing into the interior...
Causes of sunroof water leakage
The main cause of sunroof leaks is due to weather factors and the use and care of the vehicle owner. By design, any sunroof has a similar structure, including: glass, gasket, and drainage groove. Therefore, during the use of the vehicle, leaves or dirt can easily fill the drainage groove.

Because the drain is arranged along the body of the car, when blocked, water will flow back inside, causing leaks and mold in the interior compartment. In addition to dirt and leaves, due to the hot and humid climate of our country all year round, it is easy to damage plastic parts or rubber gaskets, creating gaps and stagnant water pockets that seep into the car.
How to maintain sunroof
- To maintain and clean the sunroof, the vehicle owner needs to prepare a soft cloth to clean the dirt and pick up trash and leaves in the sunroof frame area to avoid clogging. The vehicle owner should also use a soft brush or a wire brush to clean the drain. If possible, it is recommended to equip yourself with a compressed air spray system to blow clean the gasket and pipes.
During the cleaning process, the car owner needs to observe whether the gasket is cracked or broken. If so, it should be replaced soon.
- After cleaning, use a specialized solution to lubricate the mechanical parts of the sunroof, including: hinges, slide bars, and locks. Caring for the mechanical parts will prevent the slide cables from getting stuck, making it difficult to open or close the sunroof.
- Vehicle owners should also check the glass surface of the sunroof for cracks or breaks. If there are small cracks, they should be repaired by welding the glass. In case the cracks are long or broken, they should be replaced immediately to limit water from the cracks flowing into the car's interior.
- Vehicle owners should proactively check the water resistance of the sunroof by closing it tightly and spraying water on it to check for water leaks. Next, check whether the sunroof opens and closes smoothly. Are the control buttons accurate or showing any strange phenomena? If damage is detected, it must be repaired or replaced immediately.
Vehicle owners should also note that each time the vehicle is periodically maintained at the dealership, they should ask the technician to clean and maintain the sunroof. Regular and proper maintenance and inspection of the sunroof will avoid problems related to water leakage, water seepage into the vehicle, thereby ensuring the best life of the sunroof as well as the electronic equipment in the vehicle.
