Pig price today October 24, 2024: continues to decrease by 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg in all three regions. In some localities, the transaction price has fallen below 60,000 VND/kg.

Pig price in the Northern region

In the North, the price of live pigs today shows signs of a slight decrease in many places. Currently, the common price in the provinces ranges from 62,000 to 64,000 VND/kg.

Some provinces such as Hai Duong, Hung Yen and Hanoi still maintain the highest level of 64,000 VND/kg.

However, many provinces such as Lao Cai and Ninh Binh have dropped to the lowest level of 62,000 VND/kg.

Pig price in the Central Highlands region

In the Central and Central Highlands regions, pig prices also decreased slightly, currently fluctuating from 59,000 to 62,000 VND/kg.

Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa have the lowest price in the region, only 59,000 VND/kg, down 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday.

On the contrary, some provinces such as Thanh Hoa and Nghe An still keep higher prices, at 62,000 VND/kg.

Pig price in the Southern region

The Southern region is also witnessing a decrease in live hog prices. Currently, most provinces and cities in the region are purchasing live hogs at prices ranging from 60,000 to 62,000 VND/kg.

In particular, the price of live pigs in Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa has dropped to only 59,000 VND/kg, the lowest level in the country.

Localities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Binh Duong also recorded a decrease, currently trading at 62,000 VND/kg.

Overall, the price of live pigs is currently low and has decreased rapidly compared to the beginning of the week. The average price nationwide is about 62,000 VND/kg, equivalent to the price of pigs in China.

According to a survey, the price of live pigs fluctuates from 59,000 to 64,000 VND/kg, with the lowest price recorded in Dak Lak, Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa.

Some experts predict that the hog market may continue to decline slightly in the short term due to large supply and low domestic demand. However, demand for pork usually increases at the end of the year, so hog prices may stabilize and increase again in the coming time.

Due to the impact of storms and floods, the livestock industry in the North has suffered a lot of damage, leading to a shortage of live pigs and high prices. In September, the price of live pigs increased by 12% compared to the same period last year. In Dong Nai, the price of live pigs has increased continuously due to a sharp decrease in the number of pigs, with 1,296 livestock farms having stopped operating.

By the end of September 2024, Dong Nai had only 2.08 million pigs left, down 11.36% compared to the previous year.

The price of piglets has also increased, with prices starting at 2 million VND/pig for piglets weighing 10-12kg, 500-800 thousand VND/pig higher than last year.

Nguyen Kim Doan, Vice President of Dong Nai Livestock Association, said the increase in live pig prices was due to reduced supply and relocation of livestock facilities that did not comply with planning.

African swine fever is also the reason why many farms, especially small ones, have to stop operating.

Pig farmers should not expect the price of live pigs to skyrocket like previous records, especially during Tet. To reduce losses due to disease, pig farmers need to strictly apply biosecurity measures.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Trong, former Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry, the pig market during the 2025 Lunar New Year will face many difficulties due to the impact of recent floods.

Many households have suffered heavy losses, losing the pigs they were raising in preparation for Tet. Rebuilding the herd in time for Tet is a challenge, as raising pigs to market takes at least 5 months.

It is now the 9th lunar month, the time left before Tet is very short, making it even more difficult to restore the herd.

Pig farmers need time to rebuild barns, ensure sanitary conditions, prepare new breeds and most importantly, have enough capital.
