Driver arrested for scamming people by promising to help them avoid prosecution, resulting in a 250 million VND embezzlement.
Despite being a driver, Anh boasted about having many connections with authorities and claimed to have received 250 million VND to help TTNM's husband avoid prosecution, but he was caught red-handed by the police.
On November 1st, the Criminal Investigation Agency of Cam Le District Police, Da Nang City, announced that they had caught a young man red-handed committing "fraudulent appropriation of property" by accepting money to influence court cases.
Previously, the Cam Le District Police received information that a young man was suspected of committing "fraudulent appropriation of property" by accepting money to help a local resident avoid prosecution.
Through prompt verification, the police identified the young man as Nguyen Hoang Anh (28 years old, residing in Hoa Nhon commune, Hoa Vang district), who works as a driver.
At noon on October 22nd, while Anh was receiving 250 million VND from Ms. TTNM (26 years old, residing in Da Nang), the Cam Le District Police caught him red-handed.
At the police station, Anh initially confessed that after learning that NTH (27 years old, residing in Cam Le district - the husband of Ms. TTNM) had been arrested by the Hai Chau District Police (Da Nang) for "Organizing the illegal use of narcotics," he conceived the idea of defrauding and appropriating money.
He told Ms. M. that he had extensive connections and knew the Hai Chau District Police, and could arrange for NTH to be released and not face criminal prosecution.
On October 18th, Anh arranged to meet Ms. M.'s family at a cafe on Pham Van Dong Street and demanded 300 million VND to prevent H. from facing criminal prosecution. That afternoon, at a cafe on Thang Long Street (Khue Trung Ward, Cam Le District), Anh received 100 million VND in advance from Ms. M. and promised H. would be released within 15-20 days.
On October 22nd, Anh continued to ask M. for an additional 200 million VND to handle the matter, but M. said she only had 150 million VND. Hearing this, Anh said he would lend M. another 50 million VND to make up the difference and arranged to meet at a coffee shop in Khue Trung ward, Cam Le district, to exchange the money.
Here, after receiving 150 million VND from Ms. M., Anh was preparing to leave the restaurant when he was caught red-handed by the Criminal Investigation Agency of Cam Le District Police.
Based on the statements and documents and evidence collected, the Criminal Investigation Agency of Cam Le District Police initiated a case, charged the suspect, and detained Nguyen Hoang Anh for investigation into the act of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".
