Russia talks about the time when relations with the US deteriorated
Mr. Medvedev said that the relationship between Russia and the US began to deteriorate when Moscow did not follow Washington's model.
According to RIA Novosti, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia began to have conflicts with the US when Moscow refused to follow the proposed models that were suitable for Washington. In an interview with RT on November 1, Mr. Medvedev said that the US view is that what is happening in other countries must be suitable for the US.
“Such a model was also proposed to us, for example: “You want to have good relations with us, do as we tell you”. At the moment when we decided that enough is enough, this is in the interests of Russia, we started arguing with the United States” – Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Medvedev said.
According to Mr. Medvedev, one of the first “most serious episodes” occurred in 2008 in Georgia.
On the night of August 8, 2008, Georgia fired on South Ossetia from a Grad multiple rocket launcher. The Georgian army attacked South Ossetia and heavily damaged the capital. To protect the South Ossetian population, Russia sent troops and after five days of fighting, expelled the Georgian army from South Ossetia. On August 26, 2008, Russia recognized the sovereignty of South Ossetia and another former Georgian autonomous region. To this day, Georgia does not recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and considers them its own regions.
Commenting on the election results in Georgia, when many opinions said that the ruling Georgian Dream Party won but this is a party friendly to Russia and the US is not happy with that, Mr. Medvedev said: "This is absolutely not true. This is a completely pro-Georgian party."
According to the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, the continued rule of the Georgian Dream Party is simply a sign that the country's voters are pragmatic. Georgians do not want war, do not want a repeat of the events of 2008, and want to develop normal relations with Russia. Mr. Medvedev stressed that the election results were the choice of the Georgian people, not a special campaign by the Kremlin.
