Nghe An has its first coastal town.
Following the reorganization and merger of administrative units, the new town in Dien Chau district is named Dien Thanh town. This will be the first town in Nghe An province to have a coastline.
Resolution No. 1243/NQ-UBTVQH15The Standing Committee of the National Assembly's resolution on the rearrangement of district and commune-level administrative units in Nghe An province for the period 2023-2025 includes:Effective from December 1, 2024.
Accordingly, in Dien Chau district, Dien Thanh town was established by merging the entire natural area of 6.50 km².2The population of Dien Thanh commune is 14,137 people, and the total natural area is 0.82 km².2The town of Diễn Châu had a population of 7,468 people. After its establishment, Diễn Thành town had a natural area of 7.32 km².2and the population size is 21,605 people.
Dien Thanh town borders the communes of Dien Hoa, Dien Kim, Dien Phuc, Dien Thinh, Ngoc Bich, and the East Sea. It will be the only town with a coastline in Nghe An province at this time.
In addition to Dien Thanh town, this merger also established Xuan Thap commune in Dien Chau district by merging the entire natural area of 3.94 km2 and a population of 7,117 people from Dien Xuan commune with the entire natural area of 3.71 km2 and a population of 7,188 people from Dien Thap commune.
After its establishment, Xuan Thap commune had a natural area of 7.65 km2 and a population of 14,305 people. Xuan Thap commune borders Dien Dong, Dien Hong, Dien Ky, Dien Lien, Hanh Quang communes and Yen Thanh district.
The commune of Ngọc Bích was established by merging the entire natural area of 2.93 km2 and a population of 16,707 people from Diễn Ngọc commune with the entire natural area of 2.72 km2 and a population of 12,534 people from Diễn Bích commune.
After its establishment, Ngoc Bich commune had a natural area of 5.65 km2 and a population of 29,241 people. Ngoc Bich commune borders Dien Hoa, Dien Kim, Dien Ky, Dien Van communes and Dien Thanh town.
The commune of Hung Hai was established by merging the entire natural area of 5.34 km2 and a population of 5,879 people from Dien Hung commune with the entire natural area of 5.21 km2 and a population of 9,768 people from Dien Hai commune.
After its establishment, Hung Hai commune had a natural area of 10.55 km2 and a population of 15,647 people. Hung Hai commune borders Dien Hoang, Dien Kim, Dien My, Dien Phong, Dien Van communes; Quynh Luu district and the East Sea.
The commune of Hạnh Quảng was established by merging the entire natural area of 4.72 km2 and a population of 9,380 people from Diễn Hạnh commune with the entire natural area of 4.58 km2 and a population of 5,561 people from Diễn Quảng commune.
After its establishment, Hanh Quang commune had a natural area of 9.30 km2 and a population of 14,941 people. Hanh Quang commune borders the communes of Dien Cat, Dien Dong, Dien Hoa, Dien Ky, Dien Nguyen, Dien Phuc, Minh Chau, and Xuan Thap.
Following the reorganization, Dien Chau district has 32 commune-level administrative units, including 31 communes and 1 town. This resolution takes effect from December 1, 2024.
