The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) had to submit a request to the Southeast Asian Football Federation to change the venue to Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho) because My Dinh National Stadium was occupied by a music event.

At the ASEAN Cup 2024, the Vietnamese team will have two home matches when they will host Indonesia on December 15 and Myanmar on December 21.

According to the original plan, VFF chose My Dinh National Stadium as the venue for the home matches of the Vietnam team. However, 8 days before the Vietnam team met Indonesia, My Dinh Stadium was the venue for the concert "Anh trai say hi" (December 7). This music event is expected to have tens of thousands of attendees.

According to regulations, My Dinh Stadium is not allowed to host events at least 21 days before the tournament takes place, to maintain the quality of the grass, as well as ensure the hygiene of the field and related infrastructure. This raises concerns that the quality of the grass at My Dinh Stadium is not guaranteed and coach Kim Sang Sik and his team will have to choose another location as their home field.

Previously, the Timor Leste team also intended to rent Viet Tri Stadium as their home stadium. If the Vietnam team takes Viet Tri Stadium, VFF will advise the Timor Leste team to choose Hang Day Stadium. Playing at Hang Day, the Timor Leste team will save time and travel costs.

Viet Tri Stadium has been chosen many times by Vietnamese football teams at all levels as a competition venue. The Vietnam U23 team competed in the group stage of the 31st SEA Games here. The 2024 U23 Asian qualifiers were also held at Viet Tri Stadium. Most recently, the Vietnam U17 team also competed successfully in the U17 Asian qualifiers in Viet Tri.

The 2024 ASEAN Cup finals will feature 10 teams, including Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia and the winner of the qualifying match between Brunei and Timor Leste in Group A. Meanwhile, Group B includes Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar and Laos. The Vietnamese team will officially kick off on December 9, with an away match against Laos./.
