Instead of saving the maximum cost of use, many people waste a lot of money on car repairs every year. Meanwhile, they do not need or can limit.

Below are the shares of auto experts about 3 common things users do that cause them to waste unnecessary money on auto repairs every year.

Ignoring routine maintenance

“Not doing regular maintenance and driving without checking for problems does more harm than good,” said Ralph Roberts, auto expert at Way.com. Regular maintenance costs range from $600 to $800 a year. When people skip regular maintenance, they cause their cars to wear out, leading to partial or total breakdown. With regular maintenance, mechanics can identify problems and fix them sooner.”

“These minor repairs typically cost only about $46-$66 a month, depending on the year, make, model, and usage of the car,” says Alan Gelfand, owner of German Car Depot, an auto repair shop.

It’s relatively inexpensive, but some car owners don’t stick to their regular maintenance schedules. Skipping scheduled maintenance or oil changes can cost up to $3,000 if a major engine part fails because of this neglect.

Gelfand also cited the example of engine oil sludge caused by car owners neglecting to change the oil for a long time, causing great damage to the engine. Therefore, to avoid such damage, users should follow the car maintenance schedule, use high-quality oil and change the filter in time. These steps will help increase the life and performance of the car engine.

Meanwhile, Robert explains: “For gearbox problems, users can repair them cheaply if they detect the problem early. If they wait until the gearbox is completely damaged, they may have to pay up to 7,000-8,000 USD (177-202 million VND) to repair or replace it.”

Not checking tire pressure

“Checking tire pressure is one of those little things that can help your vehicle perform at its best,” says Ralph Robert.

Ignoring something as simple as low tire pressure can cause more wear and tear on your vehicle’s brake discs, brake pads, and suspension. In addition, a vehicle with low tire pressure puts more stress on the transmission and tires, leading to higher fuel consumption, he added.

Use of poor quality replacement parts and unqualified technicians

For drivers of luxury or imported cars, using unskilled technicians or poor quality replacement parts can be a huge waste of money, according to Alan Gelfand.

“You may think you’re saving money, but improper repairs can actually cost you a lot of money in future repairs due to faster wear and tear on parts,” he says.

For example, German cars are built to specific specifications that require highly specialized knowledge from repair technicians. Choosing an unqualified technician can result in poor quality repairs or the use of generic parts that may not meet the manufacturer's standards.

“Although it costs a little more, all you have to do is find an auto repair shop with well-trained, professional technicians. Doing so will prevent damage to your vehicle's performance and can reduce future costs,” Gelfand analyzes.
