Shining examples
At Hoa Sen Nghe An One-Member Limited Company, Mr. Vu Xuan Hieu - Head of the Electroplating Maintenance Department - is considered a talented "inventor" with many valuable initiatives that have generated tens of billions of dong in profits. His initiatives all stem from his efforts to bring the highest value to the company and its employees.
Sharing about his latest initiative – the "Design, fabrication, and installation of a coil-slicing line" – Mr. Vu Xuan Hieu said: "During the production process, many factors cause the quality of galvanized steel sheets to mix, and the factory lacked a technological line to separate the defective sheets from the finished coils, forcing the finished coils to be sold at the lowest price. Buying a new line from outside would incur very high investment and maintenance costs. Based on this reality, Mr. Hieu independently designed and researched the new line, while also mobilizing the entire technical department to create it. Five months after the initial idea, Mr. Hieu and his colleagues' coil-slicing line officially went into operation with optimal functionality and flexible use, allowing for inspection, evaluation, and cutting of steel coils depending on the specific situation. This initiative has benefited the company by 28 billion VND per year."
Joining the company from its early days as a technical employee, Mr. Hieu has always strived to learn, innovate, and dedicate himself wholeheartedly to the company and his colleagues, creating many valuable improvement initiatives. From 2019 to the present, he has been awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Nghe An Provincial Labor Union for outstanding achievements in the emulation movement of skilled and creative labor; a Certificate of Merit as an "Outstanding Worker" by the Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An Province; and honored as an "Outstanding Worker" by the Trade Union of the Southeast Economic Zone. Mr. Hieu is also one of four individuals from Nghe An province to receive the "Nguyen Duc Canh Award" in 2023, the 4th edition.
Although she didn't start out in the technical field like Mr. Hieu, Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang, a production line supervisor at Merry & Luxshare Vietnam Co., Ltd., has also come up with initiatives that benefit both the company and its employees. Her husband passed away while she was pregnant with her second child, leaving Ms. Giang to raise her children alone and care for her elderly parents-in-law. She has worked various jobs and sold goods to make ends meet. Looking back on her journey, Ms. Giang affirms: "Becoming a factory worker was a major turning point in my life."
In 2020, Ms. Giang applied for a job as a factory worker at Merry & Luxshare Vietnam Co., Ltd. Her resourcefulness, quick thinking, and foreign language skills quickly led the factory manager to promote her to line supervisor. Since taking on this new role, Ms. Giang's line has consistently ranked among the top in the factory in terms of speed and product output. Despite living more than 15km from the company, she is always an exemplary line supervisor, not hesitating to arrive early and leave late. To ensure fairness and smooth production line operation, she implemented a job rotation system so that all workers understand the process and proactively support each other when needed.
Beyond simply fulfilling assigned tasks, Ms. Giang also diligently observed and sought solutions to improve productivity and streamline processes for workers. Her initiative, "Replacing test molds with USB cables," was born from these concerns. This initiative has yielded a direct value of 135 million VND, while also helping workers reduce working hours and increase productivity by three times.
Despite lacking any technical ingenuity, what Ms. Phan Thi Loan (an administrative employee at Wooin Vina Co., Ltd., Dien Chau) has accomplished is truly admirable. In contrast to her 1.26m height and 32kg weight, Ms. Loan possesses a strong will, admirable perseverance, and a heart full of love.
Loan's family has five sisters, and three of them were affected by Agent Orange. Born into poverty, Loan had short, tiny arms and legs, and grew up suffering from constant pain whenever the weather changed. No one thought she could finish high school, yet Loan excelled academically, becoming an outstanding student at the National Economics University and the valedictorian of her graduating classes from universities and colleges in Hanoi in 2012.
After graduating from university, Ms. Loan returned to her hometown and applied to Wooin Vina Co., Ltd. (Dien Chau district) when the company was newly established. Once again, Ms. Loan achieved a remarkable feat by being hired and has been with the company for 12 years. During those 12 years, she has consistently received awards from the Board of Directors for outstanding performance and diligence, and has been recognized by the Dien Chau District Labor Union and the Nghe An Provincial Labor Union with the titles of "Contributing Worker" and "Exemplary Worker" in the "Excellent in National Work - Excellent in Family Responsibilities" emulation movement from 2010 to 2020.
The three individuals mentioned above are all on the list of workers honored at the "Nghe An Workers Following Uncle Ho's Teachings" commendation ceremony. The 95 individuals honored are 95 exemplary individuals directly involved in production, selected by trade unions from nearly 100,000 union members who are workers in various enterprises. Although they work in different fields, all are exemplary workers with good character and ethics, representing the spirit of "Learning and Following Ho Chi Minh's Thought, Morality, and Style," and leading the emulation movement in Uncle Ho's homeland.
Among them, 59 individuals have achieved many accomplishments in the creative labor emulation movement with many valuable initiatives and experiences that have benefited their units and businesses by tens of billions of VND; 4 comrades were awarded the Creative Labor Certificate by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. Typical examples include Mr. Gian Viet Truyen (Asia Corporation, Anh Son district), Ms. Hoang Thi Thanh Binh (Luxshare ICT Company), Ms. Vo Thi Trang (Thai Thuong Hoang Hospital), Mr. Vu Xuan Hieu (Hoa Sen Steel Company Limited), Mr. Hoa Van Tan (Minh Anh Kim Lien Garment Company)... Many exemplary individuals overcame difficult circumstances to excellently complete their tasks, such as Ms. Phan Thi Loan (Wooin Vina Company Limited, Dien Chau district), Ms. Van Thi Hong (Viet Glory Company Limited, Dien Chau district), Mr. Trong Trung (MLB Company Limited, Yen Thanh district), Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang (Merry & Luxshare Vietnam Company Limited)...
The mark of the worker
in emulation movements
Over the years, the working class in Nghe An has developed rapidly in both quantity and quality, with a diverse structure and many production and business sectors. They are the main force operating production tools and transferring new technologies, meeting the requirements of the industrialization and modernization trend of agriculture and rural areas.
The class strength, patriotism, and national pride of workers and laborers are most clearly demonstrated in emulation movements and creative labor. In its representative role, the Nghe An Trade Union has awakened the potential and strength of the working class.
Patriotic emulation movements, launched by trade unions in all fields, have been actively participated in and supported by a large number of union members, civil servants, public employees, and workers, achieving many encouraging results. The "Excellent Worker, Creative Worker" emulation movement continues to promote its role, affirming its core and overarching value in the emulation movements of trade unions. Specialized emulation movements such as "Excellent in National Service - Competent in Family Responsibilities," "Green, Clean, Beautiful, Ensuring Occupational Safety and Health," and "Culture - Sports" have been widely implemented.
In the "75,000 Initiatives for Overcoming Difficulties and Development" program, Nghe An led the country in the number of registered and submitted initiatives (23,454 initiatives). In the "1 Million Initiatives - Efforts to Overcome Difficulties, Creativity, and Determination to Win Against the Covid-19 Pandemic" program, Nghe An also ranked among the top with thousands of initiatives generating hundreds of billions of dong in benefits.
In the last four years, Nghe An province has had 127 individuals awarded the Creative Labor Certificate by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; in 2022, four individuals received the Nguyen Duc Canh Award from the General Confederation; and from 2022 to 2024, 30 workers with outstanding achievements in production were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Provincial People's Committee each year. From these emulation movements, many new exemplary individuals and dynamic, creative, effective, and sustainable approaches have emerged.
Mr. Kha Van Tam, Chairman of the Provincial Labor Union, affirmed: "Launching emulation movements is about unleashing the inherent strength of union members and workers. Therefore, emulation movements must be focused, targeted, and not merely 형식적인 (formalistic); at the same time, they must be practical and linked to the political functions and tasks of the agency or unit."

In 2024, images of workers in Nghe An province dyeing their factories red with the colors of the Vietnamese flag were widely shared on social media. Searching for the keyword "Workers saluting the flag" yielded results showing the weekly flag-raising ceremonies of union members and workers in Nghe An. This content was most frequently posted and shared during Workers' Month and National Day on September 2nd.
These beautiful images began with a video of workers at the Wooin Vina Co., Ltd. garment factory (Dien Chau district) raising their flags after the Lunar New Year. In the video, thousands of workers, all wearing red shirts with the yellow star flag, looked towards the national flag, their hands placed over their hearts in a show of deep emotion. Taking place at a foreign-invested enterprise, the flag-raising ceremony carried even greater significance in terms of national spirit and patriotism.
From the above clip, the idea of holding a weekly flag-raising ceremony was sparked by the Nghe An Provincial Trade Union, leading to its simultaneous implementation across all grassroots trade unions. The unanimous support of tens of thousands of workers throughout the province realized this idea, creating sacred moments during the 2024 Workers' Month. Many workers shared that when the national anthem is played, it also inspires a sense of national pride and a desire to dedicate themselves fully to their homeland and country.
Sharing his thoughts on the image of his company's factory brightly decorated with flags on September 2nd, Mr. Phan Dinh Tai, Chairman of the Trade Union of Minh Anh Kim Lien Joint Stock Company, said: “The grassroots trade union and the company provided funding to hang flags along the factory buildings. Following the union's suggestion, the workers unanimously agreed to buy uniforms with the red flag and yellow star emblem to wear, and smaller flags to hang along the production lines. Their spirit of solidarity and pride for their homeland truly moved me.”
The trends of globalization and international integration, along with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, present both opportunities and challenges for our country in general and Nghe An province in particular. With the province's efforts in attracting investment, projects continue to expand their scale of production and business, and many key projects have begun operations, attracting a large workforce. With patriotism, dedication to work, learning, and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh, workers and laborers in the homeland of President Ho Chi Minh will affirm their role and position in the development of society as a whole.
