Nghe An farmers aim to link beekeeping for honey in a chain

On the morning of November 25, the Provincial Farmers' Association organized a conference to train on honey beekeeping techniques and display and introduce honey products.

Attending the training course were nearly 150 trainees who were directors of cooperatives, heads of cooperative groups, heads and deputy heads of professional farmers' associations, heads and deputy heads of professional beekeeping farmers' associations in 10 districts and towns including: Quy Hop, Thai Hoa Town, Nghia Dan, Tan Ky, Con Cuong, Do Luong, Thanh Chuong, Nam Dan, Dien Chau and Yen Thanh.

Nghe An is a province with a total forest area of ​​nearly 1 million hectares, plus a large agricultural area, especially fruit trees, long-term industrial crops and short-term crops... which are abundant and rich food sources for the development of beekeeping. In many localities, people have the tradition and experience of raising bees for honey.

In recent years, in Nghe An, bee colonies have been growing quite rapidly in terms of number of colonies, productivity and honey output. The breeding areas are located in almost all 11 mountainous districts and towns; in which, concentrated in some localities such as Thai Hoa, Nghia Dan, Tan Ky, Quy Hop, Con Cuong... According to reference data from the Department of Animal Health of Nghe An province, up to now, the whole province has about 2,478 beekeeping households, with a total of more than 63,800 bee colonies, and a total annual output of more than 700 thousand liters of honey.

Beekeeping, in addition to creating livelihoods for people, also brings double value, stimulates pollination, increases crop productivity, and contributes to the destruction of pests on crops. However, currently in the province, beekeeping is generally small-scale and spontaneous, mainly based on experience, so the quality of bee colonies and production productivity are not high, still have to find their own consumption markets, and the application of science and technology is still limited....

The training course aims to support beekeepers in accessing advanced beekeeping techniques, improving productivity and honey quality; How to organize and build a chain of links in production, business and consumption of bee products from business owners.

On this occasion, the Provincial Farmers’ Association also organized a booth to display honey products. Thereby, experts evaluated the quality of honey products; shared experiences in honey exploitation, honey preservation and connected and sought output for honey.
