With only two months left until Tet, people’s demand for food is increasing. However, the prolonged epidemic and natural disasters have caused significant damage to the livestock industry in many localities, raising the question of whether the supply of pork for Tet will be enough to meet market demand.

According to Mr. Tong Xuan Chinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry, the total pork output of the country from now until Tet will remain stable and is forecast to reach over 5 million tons. This ensures supply for the market at the end of the year, despite difficulties caused by epidemics and natural disasters.

At Hoang Long Cooperative, Thanh Oai District, Hanoi, large-scale closed-chain farming has helped maintain a stable pig herd of 4,500 pigs and 400 sows, unaffected by disease and natural disasters. Every year, the cooperative supplies a large amount of pork and processed products to the market.

“We increased production by about 30% during Tet, with sales of 90 to 100 tons of live pigs, compared to the normal level of 75 to 80 tons per month,” said Mr. Nguyen Trong Long, Director of the Cooperative.

In addition to pork, the livestock industry also supplies large quantities of other meats such as over 2.5 million tons of poultry meat and about 630 thousand tons of buffalo, beef, goat and sheep meat. The total output of fresh meat nationwide is expected to reach over 8.2 million tons, enough to meet people's food needs during the Lunar New Year.
