According to the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Phung Thanh Vinh, according to a survey, Nghe An has 449 points at risk of landslides, in order of priority, requiring an investment of about 3,200 billion VND.

Speaking at the conference, delegate Nguyen Cong Van (Nghi Loc district) expressed concern about landslides, flash floods and landslides every time it rains. Delegates suggested that the province should develop a project to address the impact of climate change and the environment, and prevent landslides, flash floods, and landslides.
Clarifying the concerns of delegate Nguyen Cong Van, comrade Phung Thanh Vinh - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: Landslides along rivers, seas, and mountains are big and topical issues. For Nghe An, the weather is extremely extreme, with 21 out of 22 types of natural disasters according to the Law on Natural Disaster Prevention.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has proactively assessed landslide risk points, with a total of 449 points. However, this is only an assessment by the naked eye; to make a long-term assessment, professional assessment is needed.
"On November 8, 2024, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue an outline to reassess the risk of landslides in the province. Including assessment of the quality of anti-landslide works, landslide developments, control, analysis and assessment of causes, warning systems, and landslide monitoring. With a total of 449 points at risk of landslides, in order of priority, about 3,200 billion VND must be invested to build works at vulnerable points" - said the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
In recent years, the province has paid great attention to natural disaster prevention. Accordingly, Resolution No. 09/2024/NQ-HDND dated June 7, 2024 was issued, stipulating policies to support the implementation of the Program for stabilizing residential areas in Nghe An province for the period 2024 - 2030. Based on the assessment of residential areas and mixed households at risk of being affected by landslides, in the two years 2024 - 2025, the province has allocated 42.3 billion VND to overcome the problem. It is recommended that districts, based on the resolution, assess and synthesize needs, and develop projects according to the public investment plan to overcome landslides.
Responding to clarifying the content of the delegates' concerns at the group discussion session on the content of restoring the "health" of agricultural land, the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development pointed out a number of causes of land degradation. In recent years, the Government, the Ministry, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as Nghe An province have been very interested in this content. The Department has advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue many decisions approving the project on organic agricultural development, action plans on green growth in the province... The province has implemented agricultural models as well as issued policies on sustainable agricultural and rural development to bring about effectiveness in land improvement.
In recent times, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has implemented projects, organized training courses to improve the quality of agricultural land use, built concentrated production areas associated with production consumption, and continued to advise on policies to attract investors in the agricultural sector. Practice shows that it is necessary to reduce production seasons, give time for the land to recover, and increase crop quality.
Regarding the recommendation to select suitable crops in mountainous areas, the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: Nghe An is a mountainous area with 85% forestry land. In the past, the forestry land was mainly planted with acacia.
Regarding support policies, the Government issued Decree 158, in 2024, there was support for large timber and native trees, and support for granting sustainable forest management certificates; the Provincial People's Council issued Resolution 18/2021/NQ-HDND, dated December 9, 2021, stipulating a number of policies to support agricultural and rural development in Nghe An province for the period 2022 - 2025.
