Many messages about gender equality at the contest "Be a girl to shine"

On the afternoon of December 17, in Hoang Mai town, the Department of Population in coordination with the Health Center and the Department of Education and Training of the town organized the contest "Be a girl to shine".

This is a meaningful activity to celebrate the National Action Month on Population and the 63rd anniversary of Vietnam Population Day (December 26, 1961 - December 26, 2024).

The contest had the participation of 3 teams from schools in Hoang Mai town (Quynh Thien Secondary School, Quynh Trang Secondary School and Mai Hung Secondary School).

The teams will take turns going through 3 rounds: Greeting - Self-introduction; Knowledge round - "Affirmation" round and Talent round - "Shine" round.

More than 1,000 students attending also participated in the audience interaction with many interesting and meaningful contents.

The highlight of the contest, in addition to creating a playground for students to show their talents through performances and skits, students also have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of issues related to population, society, knowledge of adolescent reproductive health, gender equality, history and local culture.

According to statistics from the World Health Organization, adolescents account for 1/5 of the world's population. In Vietnam, adolescents and young people (from 10 to 19 years old) account for about 20% of the population and are currently facing many problems related to adolescent reproductive health, gender imbalance at birth...

Due to the influence of old ideology, although society has paid more attention to them with specific policies, girls are still subject to prejudices, discrimination between men and women, violence, gender inequality...

The contest "Be a girl to shine" is a meaningful activity to create a playground and opportunity for healthy, useful and practical exchange for girls. Through the activity, it contributes to raising awareness, changing people's concepts and behaviors on gender issues, contributing to reducing gender imbalance at birth; to motivate and encourage girls to be confident and strive to exercise gender equality.

This is also an opportunity for students to demonstrate their talents, intelligence, creativity and access accurate and reliable information about reproductive health care. In addition, it helps girls improve their understanding, knowledge and basic life skills, so that they are aware of protecting their own health, have a healthy and pure lifestyle, maintain the innocent and lovely features of school age and are the luggage to help them be more confident when entering life.

Through the contest, the organizers hope that girls will receive better education and protection, be treated equally and have a bright and happy future.

At the same time, calling on organizations and individuals in society to unite, join forces, and join hands with practical thoughts, deeds, and actions to "Enhance the role and position of girls, contributing to reducing gender imbalance at birth".

At the end of the competition, the Organizing Committee awarded the First Prize to Mai Hung Secondary School and Quynh Thien Secondary School. The Second Prize was awarded to the team of Quynh Trang Secondary School./.
