December 21, 1873:The Black Flag Army killed Francis Garnier. Francis Garnier was a French officer and explorer, famous for his expedition to the Mekong River in 1866-1868. He was also the French general who commanded the attack on Hanoi in 1973, when Nguyen Tri Phuong was defending it.

December 21, 1954:President Ho Chi Minh visited Yen Phu power plant and Bo Ho power plant (now Hanoi Electricity Company).
