Coach Kim Sang-sik: 'Hope to make new history for Vietnamese football'
Coach Kim Sang-sik showed great determination before the first leg semi-final match against Singapore at the 2024 ASEAN Cup.
Tomorrow (December 26), the Vietnamese team will enter the semi-final match of the ASEAN Cup 2024 against Singapore at Jalan Besar Stadium. This is also the first knockout match for coach Kim Sang Sik since taking office.
The Korean strategist has made very specific calculations: "I am very excited to have entered the semi-finals of the ASEAN Cup 2024 with the Vietnamese team. Our opponent in the semi-finals is Singapore. Everyone is ready to aim for victory. We hope to have a good performance tomorrow.
Singapore is a strong team. My colleagues and I have watched them play live on the field as well as on television. We have also dissected and analyzed Singapore through two meetings. The coaching staff and players have discussed tactics in the match, including when to apply high pressure. Everyone is ready. We will also have an official training session to complete all the steps before entering the match."
Talking about his own goals, coach Kim Sang-sik affirmed: "This is my first ASEAN Cup. Currently, the Vietnamese team is in the semi-finals. It has been 6 years since the Vietnamese team won the championship. I really hope to make a new history for Vietnamese football in this tournament.
The whole team always knows that Vietnamese fans have a lot of love for us. And I believe that it is this encouragement and love that has helped the players to fight and win matches so far. Even though tomorrow there won't be many fans at the stadium, our players will still try their best for the fans."
Also present at the press conference, midfielder Hoang Duc frankly shared about Singapore's weaknesses that the whole team had studied: "The team had 2 meetings to analyze the opponent Singapore. They have situations of long balls or exploiting in the midfield. The coaching staff has come up with countermeasures and defenses for those types of situations."
The first leg of the 2024 AFF Cup semi-final between Vietnam and Singapore will take place at 8:00 p.m. on December 26 at Jalan Besar Stadium.
