Prosecution of female creditor for online lending with 'exorbitant' interest rates
Without a stable job, Tran Thi Huong Giang searched for customers on social networks like Facebook and Zalo who needed to borrow money to lend at interest rates ranging from 4,000 VND/million VND/day to 50,000 VND/million VND/day, equivalent to an interest rate of 146%/year to 1,825%/year.
According to information from the Criminal Police Department of Nam Dinh Province Police, the Investigation Police Department of the Province Police has issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused and apply preventive measures to prohibit leaving the place of residence for Tran Thi Huong Giang (born in 1996), residing at 96 Tran Dang Ninh, Cua Bac Ward, Nam Dinh City, for the act of "Lending high interest rates in civil transactions".

From the end of December 2023, through social networks Facebook and Zalo, Tran Thi Huong Giang searched for people who needed to borrow money to lend at interest rates from 4,000 VND/million VND/day to 50,000 VND/million VND/day, equivalent to an interest rate of 146%/year to 1,825%/year to illegally profit. The method of lending and collecting interest was through bank transfer.
Initial investigation results show that Tran Thi Huong Giang lent money to many people at high interest rates, totaling more than 5 billion VND; illegally collecting more than 3 billion VND in interest. The provincial police investigation agency has clarified that the total amount of money Tran Thi Huong Giang lent to the two customers was 640,000,000 VND; illegally collecting nearly 437,000,000 VND in interest.
Nam Dinh Provincial Police are continuing to expand the investigation to clarify Tran Thi Huong Giang's criminal behavior. Anyone who is a victim or has information or evidence of Tran Thi Huong Giang's illegal behavior is requested to report to the Criminal Police Department, Nam Dinh Provincial Police (address 117 National Highway 10, Loc Vuong Ward, Nam Dinh City) to cooperate in the investigation.
