According to processing and exporting enterprises, Vietnam’s pepper inventory is currently very low. The 2025 harvest is expected to be 1-2 months late and output will decrease due to drought. Expectations of increased imports from the Chinese market are a positive factor for price increases in 2025.

Currently, import markets have enough goods, leading to a decrease in purchasing power at the end of the year. Domestically, the pepper industry faces challenges from unpredictable weather, increasing production costs and disease prevention. Many farmers have switched to growing durian and coffee, reducing pepper growing areas and affecting output.

Since the beginning of the year, Vietnam has exported about 250,000 tons of pepper, earning 1.3 billion USD, far exceeding the 910.5 million USD figure of 2023. This is the highest export value of the pepper industry since 2017, although the export volume is lower.

Vietnam has been the world's number one pepper exporter for over 20 years. 95% of pepper output is exported, while domestic consumption accounts for only 5%.
