In the US market, the US Dollar Index (DXY) measuring the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF) increased by 0.10%, currently at 109.19.

U.S. Treasury yields have been trending higher, with the 10-year note hitting an eight-month high of 4.73 percent on Jan. 8 as the economic recovery and potential tariffs have stoked inflation concerns and raised expectations that the Federal Reserve will take a slower path of rate cuts.

The US dollar is experiencing a strong rally and is considered "perfectly expensive", meaning the current price reflects all positive expectations, according to Bank of America (BofA).

The rally was bolstered by a recovery in the dollar this week, despite mixed news on President-elect Donald Trump's tariff policies.

The US dollar initially fell to a one-week low earlier this week as markets reacted to a Washington Post report that Mr Trump may not pursue an aggressive tariff plan.

However, just two days later, the USD bounced back after a CNN report about the possibility of Mr. Trump declaring an economic emergency to impose comprehensive tariffs.

Two main factors are said to have fueled the USD's rise: the victory of Mr. Trump and the Republican Party, along with the adjustment of monetary easing policy by the Federal Reserve (Fed) in the context of positive economic data.

According to Mr. Blake Millard, Chief Investment Officer at Sandbox Financial Partners, the US's superiority in economic growth, labor productivity, stock market performance and government bond yields has strongly attracted investment capital to the US.

New data released this week showed that prices in the services sector surged to a near two-year high in December 2024, suggesting the fight against inflation is not over. This has reduced expectations of a Fed rate cut, thereby strengthening the US dollar.

According to CME's FedWatch tool, the market currently predicts a less than 50% chance that the Fed will cut interest rates before its June 2025 meeting.
