Dak Nong Provincial Police have just issued a decision to temporarily detain a subject who rented a self-driving car, then pawned or sold it for nearly 5 billion VND.

On January 17, Dak Nong Provincial Police announced that they had just issued a decision to temporarily detain Dang Chi Tam (born in 1992, residing in Bao Vinh Ward, Long Khanh City, Dong Nai Province) to investigate the act of "fraudulent appropriation of property".

Initial investigation results show that from the beginning of 2024 until now, Dang Chi Tam has used his personal Facebook social network account and joined about 40 self-drive car rental groups in many provinces and cities to rent cars.

After renting the car, Tam falsified documents to become the car owner and then pawned or sold it.

With this trick, from the beginning of 2024 until his arrest, Tam defrauded and appropriated many cars from people in Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Lam Dong, Dak Nong... with assets worth nearly 5 billion VND.

After arresting Dang Chi Tam, Dak Nong Provincial Police seized many pieces of evidence related to the act of fraud and property appropriation. At the same time, they called on any victims to come to Dak Nong Provincial Police to coordinate the settlement.
