Having lived many times in prison, Sam Van Phuc still returned to this sinful path. This time, Phuc went all in by selling the house he was living in to get money for drug trafficking. His actions were exposed, and now the place where the drug dealer will spend the rest of his life is in prison.

In and out of prison

Sam Van Phuc (born in 1967), residing in Cam Muon commune, Que Phong district, has a bad personal history, having been in and out of prison many times. The first sentence Phuc received was 15 years in prison for the crime of Storing, transporting, and circulating counterfeit money in 2003. Thanks to his good behavior, Phuc was granted amnesty in 2010.

After reintegrating into the community, Phuc lived as husband and wife with a young woman born in 1989. They had a child together in 2013. The joy of becoming a father did not last long, as a year later, Phuc was arrested and sentenced to 30 months in prison for "Illegal possession of drugs".

From a drug addict, he became a person who spread “white death” to many people. Phuc plunged into drug trafficking even though he knew that his behavior was against the law. The case was exposed, Sam Van Phuc was sentenced to 7 years in prison for illegal drug trafficking in 2018.

In July 2023, Phuc finished serving his sentence. Starting a new life at an old age, he still seemed to have not turned back. This time, Phuc secretly bought a large amount of drugs to sell for profit.

While living in the Pu Kep mountain forest area, Quang Phong commune, Que Phong district, Sam Van Phuc met a Mong man named Thai. Knowing that this man had drugs, in July 2024 Phuc contacted him to buy 50 packages of pink drugs.

Phuc took the drugs he bought from this person to the Pu Kep forest area to hide and wait for customers to buy them. However, after waiting for a while without selling them, on the evening of July 27, Phuc decided to take the drugs to the top of the slope in the acacia forest along Highway 48D (in Quang Phong commune, Que Phong district). However, the police discovered and arrested him. The evidence of the case was more than 1 kg of drugs.

At the new trial, the defendant admitted to the crime as charged in the indictment. The defendant stated that he sold drugs to make a profit even though he knew that his actions were against the law. "Why did the defendant, who had been in prison many times, still commit drug trafficking?", in response to the question of the panel of judges, the defendant stated that after being released from prison, his income from working as a glue dealer was unstable, and he often used drugs, so the money he made was not enough. Therefore, the defendant blindly took the risk of committing drug trafficking.

Selling house to get money for drug trafficking

When questioned by the court about the source of the 50 million VND he used to buy drugs, Phuc said he got it from selling his house. “I sold my house for 400 million VND and used a small amount to pay off the debt I had mortgaged my house to pay for medical treatment. I used part of the remaining money to sell drugs,” the defendant told the court.

Regarding the VND90 million that the investigation agency seized during the arrest, the defendant stated that it was not related to drug trafficking. “Because I sold my house and have no permanent residence, I often carry that money with me,” defendant Phuc stated and asked the panel of judges to consider returning the money to him because it was not related to the crime.

After selling his house, the defendant Phuc had no place to stay. Therefore, he decided to build a camp in the forest, accepting a nomadic life. Phuc's bold decision to go all-in put him in trouble with the law, leaving his wife and children with no place to live.

With a large amount of drugs, the representative of the People's Procuracy of Nghe An province, exercising the right to prosecute at the trial, proposed a life sentence for the defendant. Faced with the strict sentence of the law, the defendant presented his difficult circumstances, illness, and poor health to ask the court to consider reducing the sentence.

However, the panel of judges determined that the defendant’s actions were dangerous to society, and that he had committed the crime of Illegal drug trafficking. Drugs are the seed of all other crimes, so a severe penalty is needed to serve as a deterrent and general prevention. The defendant had traded a large amount of drugs and had a bad personal history, so the panel of judges sentenced Sam Van Phuc to life in prison for the crime of Illegal drug trafficking.

If in previous times in prison, Sam Van Phuc still had a release date, this time with a life sentence, the defendant must spend the rest of his life in prison. That is the end of the person who defied the law to trade drugs, spreading "white death" in the community.

Sam Van Phuc was sentenced to life in prison for the fourth time.
