In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year, the group of workers worked day and night writing thousands of calligraphy words to meet orders. Although they only operated for about 10 days, they still brought in a decent income to spend during the Tet holiday.
The fruit calligraphy team of Mr. Ho Manh Ha in Vinh city has been operating for more than 10 years. This special profession only operates during the Lunar New Year, especially the peak days from the Kitchen Gods' Day to about the 25th-28th of the lunar calendar. This year, the team received 500 orders for grapefruits with calligraphy and about 1,000 watermelons with calligraphy upon request. For each letter written on a grapefruit or watermelon, depending on the difficulty, material, and accompanying decorative patterns, the calligrapher is paid 15-25 thousand VND. In addition to the progress requirements, other strict and meticulous requirements must be met to create a satisfactory product that meets the customer's requirements such as: aesthetics, color, fruit shape, cleaning steps and preserving fresh fruit.
