This is the Nam Can Xuan Border Guard Post...
Visiting the Nam Can Border Guard Post (Ky Son district) at the beginning of spring, we were not only impressed by the bright, green, clean, and beautiful landscape, the orderly and disciplined nature of a model unit; but also heard local officials and villagers share about the practical "for the people" models and activities of the green-uniformed soldiers here.

"Bright, green, clean, and beautiful"
Stepping through the gate of the Nam Can Border Guard Post, one immediately sees a system of barracks with scenic landscapes, combat facilities; training grounds; signage, flower gardens, ornamental plants, livestock and agricultural areas, medicinal herb gardens; and sports and physical training areas (pickleball courts, volleyball courts, etc.) all planned on a large scale and modernly. The soldiers' workplaces, living quarters, and dining areas have also been given a new, spacious, and orderly look… All of it makes a strong impression.

Lieutenant Colonel Xong Ba Mua, Deputy Political Officer of Nam Can Border Guard Station, said: "As one of the three units selected by the Provincial Border Guard Command to build a model unit, the Party Committee and Command of the station have united, overcome difficulties, and are determined to successfully complete the assigned political tasks."
Before October 2024, the unit had completed all the construction items for the model unit assigned by the Provincial Border Guard Command, including: excellent training; strict maintenance of combat readiness regime and discipline; building a regular army; managing discipline and related facilities.
In particular, special attention was paid to the environmental landscape, ensuring the barracks were bright, green, clean, and beautiful. A new model of a national border marker made of solid stone was constructed, complete with a surrounding lighting system to ensure aesthetic harmony with the unit's landscape.

The system of livestock breeding areas, agricultural production, gardens, ponds, barns, and trellises has been expanded and newly constructed according to a unified plan. The unit invests in, plans, and maintains the raising of 30 pigs and 120 chickens, meeting approximately 50-60% of the soldiers' meal needs.
The vegetable garden is thriving with a variety of green vegetables and fruits; gourds and pumpkins have climbed the trellises and are bearing fruit. The medicinal herb garden has a full range of commonly used medicinal plants.

A vegetable garden with an area of approximately 2000 m².2It was also planned to be concentrated in one area, with embankments built to divide the land into plots, furrows drawn, and soil improved over a distance of nearly 800 meters.2Land allocated to various departments has been increased, with a variety of lush green vegetables and root crops available year-round, meeting approximately 50-60% of the unit's daily needs.

Along with constructing and completing projects according to the criteria of "bright, green, clean, and beautiful",To build a well-organized and disciplined unit, the Nam Can Border Guard Station has implemented many solutions. These include focusing on promoting the "Excellent Training" emulation movement, emphasizing practical training, and applying information technology to training...

Furthermore, focus on effectively carrying out political and ideological education to raise awareness among officers and soldiers. Build strong Party committees at border posts and subordinate Party branches; enhance the leadership capacity and combat strength of Party committees and branches; promote the pioneering and exemplary spirit of cadres and Party members; and strengthen the role and responsibility of Party committees and commanders at all levels in leading, directing, and organizing the implementation of tasks related to border management and protection, handling and resolving border incidents and events, and preventing and combating crime in border areas.

During the period 2019-2024, the Nam Can Border Guard Station, in coordination with other forces, detected and apprehended 46 cases involving 55 individuals violating the law and administrative regulations. Of these, 12 cases involved 16 individuals engaged in the illegal buying, selling, storing, and transporting of narcotics; seized evidence included 12 blocks of heroin, over 100,000 synthetic drug pills, and 1 kg of methamphetamine; 34 cases involved 39 individuals, resulting in administrative penalties totaling over 35 million VND.
Specifically in 2024, the Nam Can Border Guard Station successfully coordinated and carried out Special Case NA1123, apprehending two Lao nationals for illegally trading narcotics, seizing 36,000 synthetic drug pills and related evidence; co-led the arrest of one individual for possessing 6 synthetic drug pills and 1.25 grams of heroin; and detected and processed five individuals violating border regulations.

In addition, to effectively carry out propaganda and mobilization work to reduce child marriage, prevent and combat illegal migration, human trafficking, and violations of border regulations, the Nam Can Border Guard Station has organized many Hmong language classes for its officers and soldiers so that when they go to the grassroots level, they can understand what the people say, speak to the people, and grasp the thoughts and aspirations of the people.
Working closely with local authorities, village elders, and influential figures in the villages to quickly gather information; actively disseminating and educating the public on the law and raising awareness among the people. During the year, the station mobilized the people, mainly the Hmong ethnic group, to surrender 18 homemade firearms of various types… contributing to ensuring local security.

The process of building and becoming a model unit in 2024 not only contributes to improving the material and spiritual lives of officers and soldiers of the Nam Can Border Guard Station but also helps them feel secure in their work, committed to the unit, improve their training level and quality, be ready for combat, and determined to build a strong and comprehensive unit.
The efforts of the Nam Can Border Guard Post in building a model unit have been recognized and highly appreciated by the Nghe An Border Guard Command. At the end of 2024, the Border Guard Command organized a visit for all units in the force to learn from the experience and replicate it at the Nam Can Border Guard Post.
Let's work together for a warm and happy home.
Managing a border section over 23.2 km long and the border commune of Nam Can - one of the difficult areas in the remote and mountainous Ky Son district, where mainly the Mong ethnic group lives - along with the task of building a strong and comprehensive model unit and protecting national border security, the Nam Can Border Guard Post also focuses on building and consolidating the grassroots political system; supporting the people in socio-economic development, poverty alleviation, and building new rural areas.

In the gentle spring rain, we followed the community mobilization officers of the Nam Can Border Guard Post to visit the VACR (Vegetable, Animal, and Crop) farm model of Mr. Va Chu Rua (born in 1974) in Nam Can village (Ky Son district). This is one of the households selected by the Border Guard Post for hands-on guidance in developing an economic model. "Thanks to the enthusiastic guidance from the Border Guard on science, technology, and support with seeds, the crops and livestock are all thriving with few diseases. This year's Tet (Lunar New Year) will be prosperous for our family again!" said Lieutenant Colonel Vu Ba Mua, Deputy Political Officer of the Nam Can Border Guard Post, happily.
A few years ago, Mr. Va Chu Rua's family only knew how to grow upland rice and ginger, and poverty was a vicious cycle. But everything changed when his family received support from the Nam Can Border Guard Post.

Along with raising awareness through propaganda, the Border Guard Post invested in fish fry, chicken breeds, fruit trees, fertilizers, and hundreds of man-days of labor to help Mr. Va Chu Rua's family with farming and livestock raising, digging two ponds for raising grass carp and common carp; advising on purchasing a mini-plow, improving water sources, and expanding the area of wet rice cultivation to over 10,000 square meters. Taking a long-term approach, Mr. Va Chu Rua's household has now become a relatively prosperous household in the village with hundreds of chickens and ducks, and 6 buffaloes and cows…,” said Lieutenant Colonel Ngu Quang Hung - Head of the Public Mobilization Team (Nam Can Border Guard Post).

In the C5 production area, we also met Ms. Va Y Ry from Huoi Nhao village, who was harvesting cassava. Around her were about 30 sacks of large, evenly sized cassava tubers, neatly tied up, waiting for buyers.
“This year we have a good cassava harvest, so we are more excited. The Border Guard has helped the people a lot, from selecting seeds and providing technical guidance to harvesting the crop. Families in need have received more attention. My son, Va Ba Tu, is a foster child of the Border Guard; he is currently studying at the Central Vietnam College of Transportation,” said Va Y Ry excitedly.

Not only the families of Va Chu Rua and Va Y Ry, but many Mong ethnic minority households in Nam Can have changed their way of thinking and working in production and livestock farming thanks to the propaganda, persuasion, and hands-on guidance of border guards.
Besides effectively fulfilling the roles and responsibilities of border guard officers assigned to the commune, the Nậm Càn Border Guard Post also collaborates with charitable organizations and individuals to develop community service models, including the "Borderland Medicine Cabinet" model, which provides free medical examinations and treatment for the people; and the "Border Road Lighting" model, which installs 30 solar-powered streetlights along the commune's roads, facilitating convenient travel for residents, providing safe play areas for children at night, and giving a new look to the Mong ethnic minority villages.

Teacher Xong Ba Tua, a teacher at Nam Can Ethnic Boarding Primary School, shared: “Before the solar-powered streetlights were installed, the roads were very dark. Now, people can travel on the roads at night conveniently without needing flashlights, and children have a safe place to play. The people are very happy…”

In addition to the solar-powered lighting system, according to Lieutenant Colonel Xong Ba Mua, Deputy Political Officer of the Nam Can Border Guard Station, one of the highlights of the unit's implementation in 2024 is the "Charity House" complex, which opens once a week to distribute essential goods, food, clothing, shoes, etc., free of charge to local residents.
This includes a library for young people, and a computer system for officials and citizens who need to search for documents online.”

In the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), the Border Guard Post's Charity House opens more frequently so that needy families can come and choose warm clothes, shoes, and essential items such as rice, instant noodles, porridge, and milk for their children. "Thanks to the Border Guard and the local Party committee and government's care, the Mong people in Nam Can have been able to celebrate warmer springs. The villagers are very happy and grateful!" shared Mr. Song Chong Thong, Secretary of the Party Branch of Huoi Nhao village.
With the motto "The outpost is our home, the border is our homeland, and the ethnic people are our brothers and sisters," the officers and soldiers of the Nam Can Border Guard Post always stand side-by-side with the local Party committee, government, and villages in preventing, mitigating, and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, storms, and floods, and in building new rural areas. In 2022 alone, the outpost mobilized 136 man-days to repair and build 0.5 km of rural roads; and assisted the people in the villages in repairing and building many houses...

As Tet (Lunar New Year) approached, the people of Lien Son village proudly told us that the officers and soldiers of the Nam Can Border Guard Post had helped build inter-village rural roads in time for the Spring Festival and Tet celebrations, making everyone very happy. Many expressed, "With the Border Guard soldiers here, the village is warm and the homes are joyful!"
The practical projects and models that the Nam Can Border Guard Station - a model unit of the border guard force - has been implementing in 2024 have contributed to strengthening the close bond between the military and the people; and encouraged ethnic minority people in the area to actively participate in the movement to firmly protect national territorial sovereignty and border security.
